New 2011 5.0 break in period?

Friend of mine is picking up a new 2011 5.0 F150.

Mileage on it will be pretty low as in under 1K.

What's the recommended break in period before switching the oil out and is it ok to switch to synthetic at that point?

Thanks,

There is no real breakin procedure anymore. The dealer told me to change the oil at 5,000 but I changed it at 3,500. Just made me feel better. I will do regular changes at 5,000. Again, just makes me feel better. You can switch to the synthetic on the first change, but the Motorcraft blend is a everything the engine needs, just stay with the 5-20 and make sure it meets Ford's specs, whatever you use.

I'll stick with 1000 miles.....a person really doesn't know how much leftover machining filings and break in dust that the oil filter is collecting from a new motor....

Stick with a 5-20 oil that meets Ford's specs.....

Just to set your minds at ease, I work at the Essex Engine plant where the 5.0 is built and I can tell you one thing, those motors are squeaky clean when they leave the plant . QC is number one here.

Thank you sir for the info and thanks for a great product. I am very pleased with my 5.0. I have 11,200 miles on it after picking it up August 5th.

I just picked mine up 6 weeks ago, wanted to see if there was going to be any issues with the new motor launch first, man this motor rocks. I had a 5.4 that was riddled with problems and a 5.3 silverado that was a very good ride but this truck is amazing.........

I am really happy with mine too...picked it up on Monday and every time I drive it, I have a huge grin on my face. Much more power and better fuel economy than my 04 5.4.

Any of you guys drive a 4.6 before you got your 5.0? I have an 08 with the 4.6 that is Gryphon tuned and really enjoy the truck. Is the 5.0 that much better?

Yes, it is. I drove a 5.4 with custom tune for 6 years, and thought it ran pretty good. This 5.0 will run circles around it. Now I know a lot of it is the 6 speed transmission, but regardless, the package is strong. I don't even feel the need for a tuner.

How to break it in? Drive it like you want it to be driven. I drive mine hard for the first few thousand miles within reason.

I had an 05 with the 5.4 with performace mods and cutom tunes and also a 2010 with the 4.6 3v with performance mods and custom tunes and now a 2011 with the 5.0 with only cat back exhaust and running 33" tires and this truck is way more powerful than my last 2 trucks!
