Finally drove the ecoboost and 5.0
Local dealer is pushing out new 2011's. So stopped in to try a few. First was the ecoboost. I found it to be good power, but nothing great. Also the display read 11.2-11.7 mpg and it had 113 miles on it. Wasnt impressed at all. It was a nice truck but nothing to give up my 2010 for. Then drove the 5.0. It felt identical to my 2010, except it has a sic growl from the exhaust, gotta love that!
Overall I found both to be nice trucks, but dont see a huge improvement over my current truck. Did I just get a fast 2010 or something? BTW mines only the 4.63v with the 6 speed.

I used to have a 5.4 (2009), test drove the 5.0, and now own a 2011 EB. There is a world of difference between my EB and the 5.4 I had. The 5.0 and EB are great engines...the EB is just a little quicker. EB fuel economy is slightly better than the 5.0...not much though. The guage you're reading is average MPG...someone has a lead foot.

Try this....
Go 60 in your 4.6 powered truck and give it some serious gas to accelerate like you are going to pass. How many gears will it drop to give you good acceleration? 2 or 3? In an eco it sometimes won't even need to shift down or if it does, only one gear and you'd better watch that speedo before you lose your license. But in a 4.6 - you need not worrry b/c the effort it takes to move the truck make you keenly aware of your speed.
So...
4.6 engine worry is: "I hope I can accelerate and make this pass"
Eco engine worry is: "I hope I over accelerate and go too fast during this pass"

The second time I drove an EcoBoost F150 was when I got one as a service loaner when I brought one of our E250s in for service.
I had this truck for a couple days. I got to put a few miles on it. I didn't hot rod this truck. I just drove it. It felt much better than the first one that I drove. There was plenty of power. It was very quiet and very civil to drive. When I picked up the truck it read about 14mpg on the display. When I brought it back it read 20mpg. Had just under 1000mi on the odo.
Both trucks were four door 4X4's.

The mileage on a car sitting at the dealership means nothing. It sits for a long time idling while the salesman talks about it, it then goes on a test drive where the prospective buyer runs the nuts off it to see what it has then goes back to idle some more while the salesman talks again. Repeat this process till the car is sold, then the real numbers show up. Also, don't look at the mileage on a cold EB. Mines gets around 12 or so for the first 8 minutes, it then jumps up to the 20 area. All on the same road, at the same speed. It seems there is an enrichment cycle built into the truck.

That thing has had a rough 114 miles. I honestly floored the crap out of my tester just to see what all the ecoboost hype was about.

This is so true about the ecoboost motor. I recommend anybody test driving one to take it on the highway, get to cruising speed and make a pass. It is amazing how smooth the motor and tranny work together. Oh yeah, after the pass take a look at your speedo.

I did the same thing, drove a eco, then a 5.0. I ended up going with the 5.0 only because of the sound. I just couldnt wrap my head around a V6 sounding truck. Also the 5.0 you can throw it in manual mode and rev it to the moon.
I came from a 04 f150 5.4 with a chip and intake to a 5.0 with a chip and intake. Dont get me wrong I LOVE my new truck but for the $25000 diffrence i'm kicking myself for not just keeping my 04
