To the OP, I doubt she would have made it to 40mph in 4low, that truck would have been screaming way before it ever got there, she'd be lucky to make it to 35 without hitting a rev-limiter.

Just think of it as if you were driving a few miles in 2wd @ high RPM, pretty much the same thing. A bit hard on the engine, but I wouldn't worry too much about the trans or xfer case.

I agree!!..lol No way she made it to 40mph in 4 low!! No way! You would blow your transfer case out before that happend. That engine would have been screaming at 40mph!!!

I've always wondered what would happen if I drove in 4 low at that speed..lol And now I know.

Was she actually in 4lo or was the dial just turned to 4lo? The truck won't actually go into 4lo unless she was in neutral, turned the ***, and then put it into drive...

Agree, it takes some coordination to find 4LO, the manual says you must be rolling 2-3 mph in neutral while turning the **** to 4lo. If she shifted while in gear it proably stopped at 4hi... Either way the computers will protect the truck no harm done, but funny!

http://4lo.com/calc/gearratio.php

Tires: 32.1
Diff: 3.55
Trans: 0.69
T-case: 2.64
MPH: 55

RPM: 3722.9

No way she made it to 40mph in 4 low!!
Didn't see my post, eh?

55 mph in 4lo would be around 3500 to 4000 rpm in 6th, depending on axle ratio and tire size.
Seems to me the 5.4 rev limiter is somewhere around 5400 rpm?

At 40 mph, the rpm's are 2707.5

When I got home and checked the dash it said to put it in neutral to shift OUT of 4Lo. She said she couldn`t get out of the driveway, there was barely any snow. What I "think" what happened was she tried to get out of the driveway and didn't realize she was in neutral and assumed the wheels were spinning so flipped it into 4x4. So I think the truck was in neutral and therefore was able to get into 4Lo.

Each year I do a tutorial with her re: 4x4 and it's proper usage :-)

I don't think it will go into 4lo without your foot on the brake.......
