EcoBoost Fuel Grade??

I have read on some forums and posts that people are getting noticable better fuel economy and say their truck runs alot better when using a higher ocatane fuel- 89 or 93. Is there any truth to this?? Anyone on here had this experience and would it be worth the money to run the 89 or 93?????

I'd be willing to upgrade my fuel if it meant better mileage. I hate that I'm always competing with myself to see if I can go from 16.3 to 16.4 mpg.

You would have to do a cost-benefit analysis. The Higher octane adjusts the timing of the engine, thus offering more fuel. Run a few tanks through and see what you get.

I dont know premium cost 10-20% more, so if you only get 10-20 % increase in fuel mileage whats the point. Or you might may 15% more and only get a 5% increase.

Im real pessimistic on what people say what they get for MPG's. A lot of people like to fluff their numbers. Theres to many factors out there to compare two different trucks.

You won't see much of a difference, definitely not worth the overall cost. I ran mine for 2k miles with 92-93 and then the next 1k with 87 and saw no mileage benefits. I would say there is a slight performance benefit but not as in fast, just smoother and feels more crisp/responsive.

Since that 1k with 87, I've run 92/93 since as I like the response better. For the record, I do not drive to work every day, I work from home so a tank of gas lasts a long time so the expense to me is worth it.

By the time this weekend is over I will have over 21,000 on my EB. I have ran the cheapest stuff I could find, name brand cheap stuff, mid-grade and premium. All of it seems to return about the same mileage. I do notice a couple of tenths jump when I stumble on gas without ethanol. Unless I plan to tow something really heavy in hot weather I just stick to 87 unless I happen to stumble on a station that is selling premium for regular price.

Interesting responses because I do see a noticeable gain in fuel mileage when I opt for 91 octance, at least with the blends we get here. I have not done a cost benefit analysis over the long term, but I do see an improvement in my mental outlook when I see my consumption gauge reading higher numbers even though I know I am paying more.
