5.0 mpg question

Im reading threads where guys are getting 17-19mpg in the city. My brand new truck has yet to break the 13mpg mark and only has 500 miles on her.. What's going on and yes I drive like I have an egg in between the pedal and foot.

There must be something wrong. The lowest I have ever gotten on a tank is 18.5. Do you do a lot of idleing? That and wind kills the mileage.

Mine has never gotten less than 18.9 and is almost always above 19.5, as calculated by miles devided by gallons. I check it every week when I fill it up. I also only use 87 octane Shell regular without ethanol.

Like so many problems - take it to your dealer and have him download the latest software and reboot the system !

That's not many total miles yet. How long is your commute? I'd say that would be normal mpg if your commute is not much over 10 minutes, since these newer engines run rich until really warmed up. Same goes for the Ecobootst

With 500 miles she is still breaking-in. I get over 20 when going 45 mph.

i get 16.5 city if my drive is over 15 miles. If it's only a couple (which is 99% of the time) i get 13.5. Highway the highest i have ever gotten is 18.5 but i drive faster than ideal MPG speed.

4wd w/ 3.73's.

yeah my commute is less then 5 minutes and the computer is reading 12.8, I don't do a lot of highway driving and everywhere we go its less then 10 minutes. I have an fx4 sc too. It should have the latest update bc its a 2012 and I saw it come in on the truck as I was buying it?

your truck doesn't even warm up with a 5 mile commute that's why you are getting terrible MPG's.

Only reason i'm getting 13.5 is i'm on country roads with no traffic.

I only got about 14.5mpg until about 2000 miles on my 5.0. ever since I haven't seen lower than 16.5 with combo driving, probably 60% city, 40% highway. I am not light on the go pedal either. 5.0 supercrew 4x4 with 3.55's. I would be going to the dealer as mete said.

I can email my 6 year spredsheet, which covers my 2005 and the 2011.

I was not talking about you specifically, or saying you are wrong. More of less meant that I question 18-19 type numbers in the city, unless your getting no stops and able to cruise. But even then your spread sheets mean nothing without third party verifcation, because you could have fudged numbers, or could be incorrectly calculating things, just saying.

Either way props for keeping records for all that.

First, I'm a CPA, so if I made errors on such a simple Excel spreadsheet, I need to revoke my license. Secondly, what would be the point of lying to myself in a spreadsheet? The whole purpose of it was to track the actual mileage to help identify when my truck needed maintenance, not to brag about mpg.

I can get 20 to 21 in town if I keep it at about 40 mph and time the stoplights. If I don't have to idle too much and just drive normally around town, I usually get around 18 to 18.5.
