2012 Eboost front license plate question

I've got an Eboost coming next week, hopefully?? I don't like the look of the front license plate holder off to the side, I would prefer it be right in the middle. The dealer tells me only on the Eboost is it off to the side because of the air flow?? All other motors are in the middle. I need a front plate here in Utah, been busted already not having one on my other vehicles.
Anyone heard of this air flow thing before? First I've heard, or is the dealer blowing smoke up my a$$??

It's true. Do a search and you'll find more than you'll care to read.

Ford put it off to the side because the center needs to be open for cooling. Best to leave it where it is or you could void your warranty.

For once the dealer is not BSing. Do not block the opening, there is an intercooler behind it that serves a purpose and requires airflow.

My advice is to leave the plate in the stock location. I like it. I can spot fellow Eboosters from afar!

we don't need the plastic license plate on the front in my state. I would like to take it off. Does anyone have the Ford part# for the normal bumper plastic cap that goes in place of the license plate bracket on the EcoBoost trucks?

I was afraid of that....

I'll leave it alone, maybe I'll find me a kicka$$ cover for it. The new truck is all black, maybe a tinted cover or something? Thanks everyone.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, it will probably grow on you. It most likely looks awkward not because of the placement itself, but rather it is not in the middle like every other vehicle made(and what you are used to seeing). As you own the truck for longer, you will adjust and(I would guess) it will become more normal to you. Anyway, thats the end of my psych eval for the day, lol......

Perhaps some of you engineer types can come up with a fan system to improve airflow to the intercooler. It seems odd to me that Ford would make the opening just the right size to allow just the correct amount of air through. It seems to me that the opening should be a bit oversized. I wonder why they didn't put a supplemental fan system on/near the intercooler to improve airflow.

Cost. Why install an electric fan for the intercooler when passive cooling is sufficient? The size of the opening IS engineered to provide enough air to the intercooler as long as the license plate is in the correct location.

Here in Michigan we don't have front plates so all F150s delivered here get the solid black plastic piece on both sides.

Blocking the intercooler wont over heat your truck just hinder the performance. I would put a grill in the open space like I did and others because the intercooler will take a lot of shots with debris on the highway. And like others said leave the plate where it is you will get use to it.

Someone in another thread did the math and found that some of the lower grills actually block more air than the license plate. It was hard to believe until he showed his calculations.

The hole on mine just grew on me. I wasn't a huge fan at first either. But it does server a purpose.

...anyone notice a rare steam coming in after running the engine in the rain?

It most certainly will overheat your truck!! It will fry the turbos. Hook a 7500lb camper to the back of your truck and go climb some mountains and watch what happens when you have that front grill blocked..

Well I put the grill on right after I bought the truck, I spent a week in S. Carolina were the temps hit 110 degrees, 4 people in the truck and about 800lbs in the bed w/ ac on high. Now I wasnt towing but my temp was fine the whole time. The trip was 945miles one way. Now I think even if you keep the front open and you go through the mountains with a 7500 lbs trailer and its 100 degrees you are going to have a heating problem regardless.
