100 Series PNP Remote Start & Hood Switch Kit

Does anyone have one of these installed in an '11 F-150?

I'm confused. I'm pricing this out (BC3Z-19G364-A) on Ford's accessories web site which gives me the price and the installation charge at a particular dealer. I'm assuming that the service guy's looking at the same thing, but he wants $350. The starter and a hood switch kit installed is about $300 on Ford's site. Can he deviate from the online pricing? It appears to be a quote on the web site.

This being the entry level pnp starter, is it easy to install? I'm thinking I could handle it myself if there's not a lot of fishing wires through headliners, etc.

One last thing about the hood switch. How do I know if I need one. Can someone tell me what it looks like and where it's located.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

One, the pricing on the ford website for parts is just like MSRP on a vehicle. It is a guideline, not a requirement. Second, and just a thought, could it be tax making up the difference? If your tax rate is about 8-9% that would cover the difference between 300 and 350. Just a thought.....

I installed the 100 series starter in my father-in-law's truck just after Christmas. If you can turn a screwdriver you can install this.

The differences between the OE (BC3Z-19G364-A) and 100 series (BT4Z-19G364-A) are as follows: OE has two new keys (as you pictured). The 100 has a separate fob that beeps to confirm the truck has started. Part cost for the OE is about $180 while 100 is $230. Both will require a trip to the dealer to get the remote start turned on in the computer.

I found the installation info here: http://fordf150ecoboostforum.com/ind...-150-ecoboost/. The installation instructions are in post #7. You don't have to fish wires through the headliner. You just have to pull down on the edge of it a little bit and stuff the wire above it.

Here's a picture of the hood switch. My FIL's 2011 3.7 SuperCab had it already installed so yours might too.

I looked into this and from what I gather the install is easy BUT on the 11's and above at least, you need the dealer to turn it on, and from what I have heard some charge a little some charge a full installation fee.

IMO get an aftermarket one, you will probably pay the same if not less and the range on it will be a TON farther. If you ever had a factory remote start, you will know that its not that far.
