hopefully you aren't trying to engage it while your rear wheels are spinning.

Does the information center on the dash show "4x4 shift in progress" then "4Hi?"

Put it in 4wd BEFORE you hit the snowy hill.

Do not shift if the rear wheels are spinning, damage may occur.
If you spin out in 2wd, STOP, put it in N with your foot on the brake and put it in 4LO to get moving again.

Or 4Hi since you can then shift back out of it without stopping again.

I'm not shifting into 4x4 while the rear tires are moving, it does show 4x4 in process then the screen does show it in 4Hi but the front wheels dont turn

Interesting. Have you verified this on a lift though? Remember, your front differential is an open one (not limited slip or any type of locker), so you may only power one front wheel in certain situations.

This is correct...a lot of people think these trucks are truly 4 wheel drive, when in reality, they're 3 wheel drive. Only one of the front tires actually "pulls."

I wonder if I could win a false advertisement, or product misbranding lawsuit against Ford...all of their literature, salesmen, etc will tell you it's a 4x4, but really it's a 4x3! LOL!

Well in that case if you have a 2wd, and no locker or LS, you would have a 1x4. But if you put a locker up front and dont know what your doing, thats how you break stuff.

I can tell when it actually engages because the truck pulls foward, with the rear locker locked that Fx4 will go almost anywhere!!

So then what do you mean you have an issue? Sounds like your truck is going into 4wd.

what sucks is when you have a awd that is truly 1x4 offroad.

I was laughing my *** off at my friend the entire trip at hidden falls because any time one tire lifted that was the only one spinning
