2011 fx4 4x4 issue

Having an issue with my 2011 5.0. When I stop, switch it into 4x4 it doesn't want to go in? 4lo seems to work fine but 4hi doesn't want to go in?

You have to be moving to switch to 4x4 with your foot off the gas ...

No you do not have to be moving. My guess he has a problem somewhere, but not sure where. Could be with the IWE system. Not as likely the TC if it will into 4 lo. As it is under warranty, I would suggest getting it to the dealer.

These on the fly 4x4 can be finicky, you can be stopped and moving with foot on the gas and it should work. But ive been stopped and it wont pop in right away sometimes have to wait a second or back up a little.

And I have had the electronic shift on the fly since 1998 with different model years and manual SOF before that, and never had to be moving. In fact you have to be stopped for 4 lo.

If yours will not go into 4hi when stopped, then you have a problem with your system.

That would only matter for 4 low. In 4 hi it should engage no matter what you're doing. My guess is that he has a problem with the system rather than user error.

On page 304 of my 2010 F150 FX4 manual it states the following:

Shifting from 2x4 to 4x4 can be done at any forward speed. This indicates that the vehicle must be moving at any speed. It also states that the foot must be off the gas to make it shift smoother.

To shift to 4x4Low, one must be moving less than 5 km/h.

It also notes: Do not shift if the rear wheels are spinning, damage may occur.

Me ... if there is a posibility that I may need 4x4 Hi when I am off dry hard pavement, I always shift into 4x4 Hi. This makes it easier for ME ... of course it's your vehicle and your $$$$'s. I have a tendancy to follow instructions

This may sound like a silly question, but how are you determining if it is - or isn't - in 4Hi?

i'll go in 2wd till I spin out( ex climbing a snowy hill) Then i'll flick it to 4 hi and still my rear 2 wheels will only spin. When it finally does engage I go up no problem
