If you never need to go off road and live in a fairly dry and warm area then I can see the need to only have 4x2. Plus you end up with a little more mpg. Where I live it means snow, boat ramps, hunting, etc so 4x4 is it.

Personal opinion here but personally dont matter where I live I would always have 4x4 it doesnt' cost that much more when you factor in the overall cost of the truck, and you never know what you might get into. To top it off you will be able to sell a 4x4 easier any day of the week and get more back because of it.

I got mine for the look and options. Upgraded from an XLT and like the look better than the Lariat (Lariat looked to 'professional' to me).

ill chime in on the 4x4 option. Sure I am in 4x2 99% of the time, but it sure is nice when I DO NEED 4x4, All I have to do is turn a switch and have alot more ease of mind that I have better traction than loading my 2wd truck down to get half the traction of a 4x4. thats my rant on that....

Agreed.

I bought my truck b/c of how it looks. I'm not into the chrome thing anymore nor am I against it but I just think that the PTM bumper, side mirrors and running board look good on my truck plus it has this SPORTY look. I'm back n forth between the north and the south and I went with 2wd simply b/c if it is snowing I'm not driving

I will bet anything you want to bet it has seen a rougher life than your truck has and it only has 22K miles on it.
im aware, this is my opinion, but i live on gravel, in the middle of nowhere. i need 4x4. i'm biased, yes, but ive never seen a 4x2 do much good where i live... and my truck had worked its fair share bud, my rear end shows that. before i had got it the previous owner would pull tanks of fuel, and chemicals that exceed the weight limit on that little 4.6. When i had got it it continued doing so. Oh, and mine isnt made for jumping, but when you have a coyote on the run and terraces in your way its impossible to miss those... im not saying my truck is better, but all farm trucks get the **** beat out of em sooner or later.

FX2 fo sho

I wanted an FX2 when I was truck shopping for the sporty look (2004-2008), I prefer these FX2 models to the 09' and up. I don't like the wheels or they way they fit on the 09'. I could not find and FX2 super crew to save my life when I was truck shopping and the ones I found only had the 4.6. A 5.4 w/ 3.73 was a must for me. The one FX2 with a 5.4 I did find did not suit my taste, a little too demographically represented if you get my drift. Got the Lariat I have today for quite a bit under loan value and haven't looked back since. But again, the sportiness of the exterior and interior 04-07 FX2s is pretty awesome. PMASON718 has a badazz FX2 fyi.

I lived in snow country most of my life, never owned a 4x4 vehicle, and I've always been able to go where I want to go. I seldom drive on unpaved roads or offroad. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE a 2wd will get you 90% of the places a 4x4 would.

I owned and XLT and always wanted what I didn't have, captain chairs and center gear box. So I bought the FX2 because I do no offroading living in Orange County, CA. Oh, and I hate chrome.

Once a 2wd truck gets to be worth $5-7k or less; it's harder to sell than a 4x4. Now the 2wd fans are going argue the point, but that's what I have noticed.

Having owned an XLT, I never want one again, after now experiencing my Lariat.

Anyways, the street look and PTM work of the FX2 looks more attractive than a 2wd Lariat imo. Lariat, or Platinum, I would rather have a big 4wd model. If I had to have a 2wd, I too would prefer the FX2 over the Lariat or Platinum models just because of the natural looks.

Put a truck in plant service in a chemical plant. Generally when they get 17K miles on them they are ready for the junk yard. They get beat just as bad. We set a river water strainer and pump in the back of mine one time. Both rear tires blew out. Had to try and pull a whole tree that was caught in the river water pump house screens out. Almost made it when the second pump kicked in and started pulling water. Pulled the tree into the screens and drug the truck out in the river. In the winter when it gets really cold ( yes it gets in the single digits in AL ) it runs 24/7. When it is not being driven, it is idling. Only warm or dry place to be when you are working on pipe in the high lines or working up in the structures. It has be sprayed with hydrochloric and sulfuric acids. I have carried 6" and 8" pipe on the rack. Built Ford tough and looks like hell. Been run into the side of the bed with a fork truck and punctured a hole with both forks in the left side. It has had the tail gate knocked out twice. Stuck in mud and pulled out with a bulldozer more times than I can count. Drove it today and it runs like a champ.

There was a chemical plant near where I worked in georgia. When they brought in the f250 that pulled the trailers from the chemical plant it had holes in the fenders big enough to fit a football through. That truck was a 99-03 and that was in 2007. They got a pretty good laugh out of it when I asked if the truck was from up north.

Life is rough on a poor old truck in a chemical plant I am telling you. Those are just some of the stories that come to mind with the truck I am driving. That does not count the other 7. All Fords by the way. I had to go and get a piece of pipe that had been heat treated one time. At a traffic light about 4 miles from the plant, the left front caliper locked up. Drove it all way back to the plant with and came through the main gate with the whole left front smoking. The truck has a 300 6 w/ a 3.08 open rear end. I was on the floor with the gas trying to get back to the plant.
