Why Purchase and FX2?

Life is rough on a poor old truck in a chemical plant I am telling you. Those are just some of the stories that come to mind with the truck I am driving. That does not count the other 7. All Fords by the way. I had to go and get a piece of pipe that had been heat treated one time. At a traffic light about 4 miles from the plant, the left front caliper locked up. Drove it all way back to the plant with and came through the main gate with the whole left front smoking. The truck has a 300 6 w/ a 3.08 open rear end. I was on the floor with the gas trying to get back to the plant.

4X4 or 4X2.....
I had a 4X2 Ranger and I got it stuck to the frame in the sand dunes at the desert. My wife was pissed because we were stuck for an hour. Then a huge F350 4X4 came and pulled us right out. My wife had the same look on her face as when we first met, however she was looking at the driver of the F350 She said, "So, when are you getting a 4X4?" Eight years later I finally got a new FX4

alright, guess ill throw my .02 cents in. any truck i ever own will be 4x4. because even though i probably got less than 100 miles on my truck in 4x4 in the last 6 years of ownership, there have been times that i really needed it. where i live there is no road service. i work in public safety so my job doesnt close due to bad weather. i HAVE to get to work. last year i plowed through 2 - 3 foot snow drifts for 3 miles to get the main highway to get to work. no 2wd would have made it. he11, i barely made it with 4wd. there was one hill i had all the tires spinning and was still sliding backwards on the ice.
now on the other coin, 2wd has its purpose, and if you dont need 4x4, then dont get it. many people get around fine in a 2wd. in fact, when i go duck hunting and i am offroad around the pond, i rarely use the 4wd. my father has a 1980 silverado 2wd open diff, that is basically a 1wd truck. i have seen him take that thing places i would think twice about going in 4wd. he has never gotten stuck. i will also stipulate that most 4x4 owners dont do serious offroading and most use their trucks like i do. my little town is full of near new shined up and decked out pavement queens with 10 inch lifts and 44 inch tires that are so coated with armor-all its a wonder they get traction on the street, let alone offroad. to hear some of these people talk though, you would think that they have 1st Place Baja 1000 trophies that they won with these posers sitting on their fireplace mantle.
the truth is, as much as i love my 4wd truck, i dont even consider it a REAL offroad truck. real, true offroad trucks have solid front axles (no IFS), beefy suspension, lockers front and rear so that you get actual 4 wheel drive, and their owners actually go places with them that no other vehicle owner would dare to go. there are places i would not take my truck, where a REAL offroad 4x4 truck would be at home.
i know of offroad clubs and such that if you showed up for an event with an IFS 4x4, you would get flamed in much the same way as some 4x4 people flame the 4x2 people.

Cannot tell you how many times I have gone to my supervisor and told him something was wrong with my truck. I have heard others tell him about their trucks too. He will tell me, and them, he does not want to hear anything about "those" trucks. Drive it anyway or park it and walk. I watched him last week throw away a recall notice on the Supervisors 2011 F150. I even watched him throw away the recall notices on the 1997's ( we have 6 ) fuel tank straps. I asked him why did he do that. His reply was that he did not care about the trucks. He said he wished they would burn up. Wonderful person.

Not necessarily. I've seen many 2wd trucks with little air in the tires and they get around great, it all depends on the driver. Also I've seen many 2wd trucks with rear diff locks and not get stuck at all. But like I said it depends on who's driving. I've gotten stuck in my 4X4 once in the sand, but I was trying to pull out a larger truck.

If I were to buy a new truck, it would be an FX2 or FX4, as I've grown used to the PTM bumpers and look. The FX2 would be my first choice, though, as I don't live in an area that often requires 4x4, but I enjoy the style and looks of the FX package.
I think that is one reason why people buy the FX2...because they don't want/need 4x4, but still want the style the FX trucks offer.

I think my truck is the last fx4 i will buy unless they change some things on the interior to make it more truckish and less street.

I really think ford lost focus on what the fx package was when it originally first started. once the fx2 came out they taylored the fx4 to fit the fx2 design IMO.

the F150 in any wrapper is more truck than the other 1/2 tons. period. i have either owned or driven all the others at one time or another. they suck compared to the Ford, with the Toyota being the only one that even comes remotely close.
