2012 f150 already headed to shop

I just bought a 2012 f150 a couple of weeks ago. It has 1500 miles on it and i love the truck. About a week ago i was leaving the gym and when took off i heard some popping noises. Didnt think much about it. Today i was leaving the gym again and took off real slow and the truck jerked about 4 times. Felt like if you had a standard and had it in first gear and kept taking your foot off and on the gas. Just my luck. Im taking it back to the dealer tomorrow but i know it want do anything when they drive it. Has anyone else had these issues. Thanks.

May not be a big deal at all. For all those type problems ask the dealer to download all latest software and reboot the system. That will probably fix it.

Was the traction control light going off when this occurred?

This sounds similar to what happened in my 08. Ended up getting the trans rebuilt. Hope your luck is better.

I just bought a 2012 FX4 yesterday. It has done this twice already. It was after sitting for several hours. On initial take off, it felt like a standard transmission with too much clutch as it was bucking and chugging. When I released the pedal and hit it again it was gone. It only happened on initial takeoff and wouldn't do it again till the next time I drove it after sitting for several hours.

Thats exactly how mine felt. I took it in and of course they didnt find anything. It has done it once since i took it in. It is only when its been sitting for a while and at takeoff. Not sure what it is.

It has pretty much cleared itself up. If not for the 2 times mentioned before, it has been flawless.

I don't know if these trucks have a hill side assist but this afternoon I was stopped on an uphill off ramp. When I let off the brakes to step on the gas, the truck did not roll back and seemed to chatter slightly as the truck started moving. I got the impression the chatter was the brakes releasing. On the two cases above, was the truck on an up hill incline? Also, does anyone know if we have an uphill start assist system of some sort?

Yes it does, from manual.

Using Hill Start Assist
1. Press the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a complete standstill.
Keep the brake pedal pressed.
2. If the sensors detect that the vehicle is on a slope, the hill start assist
feature will be activated automatically.
3. When you remove your foot from the brake pedal, the vehicle will
remain on the slope without rolling away for approximately two or three
seconds. This hold time will automatically be extended if you are in the
process of driving off.
4. Drive off in the normal manner. The brakes will be released

2011 F-150 XLT SC 4X45.0

Your post is intriguing to me as I may trade my 2011 in on a 2012 and was hoping the transmission issues had been fixed on the 2012 F-150.

In early March the truck was in the shop for the 4th repair attempt on this issue. After eight days and a repair order that looks like they rebuilt the tranny I was leaving the gym (like the OP mentioned) and when the vehicle tried to shift from 1st to 2nd there was a rapid fire attempt to shift about five times from 1st to 2nd. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom and then it finally grabbed 2nd gear. I can't tell from the original post if the issue was when first moving out or on the 1-2 upshift.

After repair attempt #4 I got majorly pissed at Ford and found a lemon law attorney. I didn't get much of a settlement but want out of my 2011. Depending on the deal I will buy either a new F-150 or go to a different brand. If I knew a 2012 wouldn't have transmission issues I'd buy another F-150 but your post has me worried.

Yikes! I would definitely bring it in. I had a smiliar shifting issue with my Ford Edge, and have never felt more nervous when driving a new vehicle.

For those of you with the shifting issues, do you mind sharing your build dates?

RVJ - I ordered a 2012 FX4 5.0 and am hoping I don't have this problem! I go to the gym as well, so hopefully that is not a factor in this craziness . My truck was built over a month ago but shipping is on hold due to 'software updates' according to the Ford rep I am working with.

I read quite a bit about this before I placed an order for a 2012 F150. My dealer found a truck with the exact same options that I wanted but the build date was 12/18/11 which fell in the timeline for some of the problems I read about - so I decided to build my own new.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it was built 4/6/12. This date is on the window sticker at the very bottom of the page and also on the sticker on the drivers door. Where would I find the actual build date so I could be sure, if this is not correct?
