Towing Mirrors - Need them for a 24' travel trailer?

I recently picked up a 2009 STX Supercab 4x4 with the towing package, but with standard mirrors. Those of you that have hauled an RV, do I need something more to really feel comfortable towing my trailer? I used to tow with a Dodge and I needed mirror extensions, but these Ford mirrors seem to be quite large.

Thanks

In what universe do you think the 2v 4.6L is gonna be able to handle a 24' travel trailer?

I'm gonna have to agree.

That's a lot of trailer for that motor, what's the weight on it?

It's a lightweight model, around 4200lbs.

To answer the O.P. question, I tow a 28' TT with the 2012XLT with the ecoboost. It also came with standard mirrors. Towing forward was OK, I could see traffic in the other lanes adequately but I could not see properly for backing the trailer into tight spots. I added the towing mirrors and they work great for towing and backing.

To the OP-I should apologize. After posting my comment earlier and reading back through it, it definitely comes off as much more negative than what I intended. For that, I apologize, more beers . So, to rephrase, the 2v 4.6 seems like it would have trouble hauling around a large trailer such as yours(even in lightweight form like you described). Have you had a chance to tow it at all yet to see how it would work out? Regarding your original question, the need for TT mirrors would be completely based off of your usage. If you are towing your travel trailer frequently, I would say they are absolutely worth the investment. If you are not, you should be fine without them. Best of luck either way!

I tow a 20 ft ski nautique and wish I had the big tow mirrors, but the rest of the time I'm glad I've got the smaller mirrors. City driving can get a little tight with these big trucks.

If the 4.6 falls short in towing the 24 footer then throw some 4.10 or 4.30 gears and a custom tune on it, should do the trick!

I tow a 31' TT and do not have extended mirrors. Well, let me correct myself, I do have a pair of extended mirrors but I don't use them anymore, I am comfortable with the standard 11 mirrors.

I have the regular mirrors on my little truck but, even though I'm not towing anything right now, I wish I had the dumbo ears.

The new mirrors aren't bad, but i also am not pulling a camper just a 18 ft car hauler w/ a vehicle. I find the driver side is easy to use, passenger side is lacking while backing the trailer up. I'm not sure why they didn't put the little mirror in the up right hand corner on the passenger side like they do on the escape.

i looked at and drove a max tow 2011 and did not buy it because of the huge mirrors. Tbey should have made them power fold. Ended up buying the same truck in lariat version.

I love my towing mirrors! You just can't have enough vision on either side of you towing any kind of big rig or closed in trailer. But, that is me! I come from owning two semis with larger mirrors so I love them

It's not the length as much as it's the width of the TT. I towed a 22' TT that was only 7'6" wide and never needed tow mirrors. We now have a TT thats 8' wide and need tow mirrors to see past the edges for changing lanes, etc. I bought some ****'s and they work great.
