Does anyone know how the air conditioned seats work in the 2012's

 

As I understand it, it is a Peltier, thermoelectric cooling system (one of many Internet references is at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoelectric_cooling) with a small fan...separate from the vehicle's heating/cooling system.

 

They blow cold air on yer nuts and stuff and make it all nice.

If you don't have the perforated leather it won't work.

Do you want the design and operation of the system explained or are you asking if they are effective?

They are not perfect but they work better than several previous vehicles with cooled seats. They are much better than my wife's 2006 caddy STS.

 

I know that there are seperate blower fans for each front seat. And I know that there is an air filter under the seat that needs to be changed on regular intervals. "I Thought" that when you clicked the switch, the fan came on and it pulled cold air from the duct that goes thru the console to the rear seat ducts on the back of the console. The reason I say that is because unless I turn on the A/C it's not cold air. And now that I'm thinking about it, I can't recall if there is even any air blowing thru the perferations unless I turn the A/C on. I'll check on that later when I run my errands. In fact I may check un der the seat to see if there is some type of flexable duct that goes to the seat. But my luck, I'm flapping my gums again.............

 

Move your seat all the way forward, and look underneath it in the back. You will see a plastic intake duct. The seat HVAC is completely separate from the rest of the HVAC. I tested this by turning the heater on and the AC seats on. Could definitely tell the AC seats were on.

There isn't a cabin air filter but there is a filter for the A/C seats????

 

They don't want dust blowing up your crack... But does feel good in the summer....
