I just found out the 38k did not include taxes and registration so that makes my decision easier to pass

Yeah, that guy's trying to jack you around. Negative equity is negative equity. You can put a bow on it, throw money at it, call it watermelon or a billy goat if you like, but it's STILL negative equity! Sheesh...some of these salesmen....

When he told you that you don't really have negative equity, you should've said, 'Oh! Does that mean you're offering me at least what I owe on my trade? Because that's the only way I won't have negative equity.'

I just LOVE it when salesmen try to play numbers games with me. Since I make my living working with numbers, I'm pretty good at seeing through all their crap.

I always play dumb at first just to see what they have to say. I always love to see the look on their faces when I call them out on what they're trying to cover up/pull, and it's even better when they find out I 'negotiate' for a living.

Right. 6K under MSRP. Did he tell you what the current rebates amount to? I bet it's very close to 6K. Boy, he's making you a HECK of a deal, huh?

Nah. Walk away, and stay away.

I have always sold all of my vehicles myself because you always get more money. Spend a day detailing your car and take some pictures and put them up on Craigslist. Once you have a buyer have a bill of sale notarized saying that once you receive the title you will transfer it to the new owner. Since your military you can go to your legal office on base and they will do this for free . This gives the new owner something saying he bought your vehicle in case you decide to never give him the title. I have done this several times with no problems at all. By doing this you can get what you owe and then go back to the original dealer who offered you the truck in the low 30 range.
