6.2L mpg @ 8K , better than I expected
So, I just turned 8k on the clock, after picking up the truck in Feb. At first, the mileage was pretty low, but I figured once I learned what the truck needed and got a few miles on it, that things would improve.
If I drive with my foot in it all the time, I average somewhere between 9.5 and 11.2 mpg. During my normal driving, I see around 13.5 or so, and for the life of the truck, I am averaging 13.9, but that is a little skewed by a couple of drive in movie trips.
In March, I did a commute being as thrifty as possible with the throttle, and this was the result, with an average speed of 65. My commute is 38 miles one way, and takes between 50 minutes and two hours, depending on traffic.
Today, I tried the same thing again, over the same route, averaging 65, with the same light traffic. this was my result.
I know this is not very scientific, but it is a good median example of what I am seeing out of this beast, six months into ownership.
You can see through my last 5 tanks that I am averaging close to 15 mpg with them all. In this horrid Houston traffic, I am more than pleased. I was only getting 19 mpg out of the SHO. I had prepared myself for 11 mpg when I made the decision to buy this truck, so I am way ahead of what I expected.
I look forward to seeing what the mileage is when I started heading up to Stillwater for football games this fall.

Not bad. How ya liking the ol' 6.2? I love mine with a passion! I've got about 27,000 miles on my truck now. I ordered her in Oct. '10 and took delivery in Jan. '11. I thought the same thing when I ordered my truck. And I too was pleasantly surprised when my mileage was better than 13mpg around town. Normal around town driving (with my foot out of it), I'm getting 15 or so. After some modes, now I routinely get 19-20 mpg at 65mph. I can get 23mpg at 55mph, but that's with perfect conditions, you know? After I decide which tuner to go with I'm expecting to do better yet. Check out my albums to see my displays. I think you can still eek out some more mpg's from here.

I am loving this truck. I am so glad I went with the 6.2.
I think this will be about the top of my mileage, due to how horrific my commute is each way. Hopefully I can get close to 20 when I head to OK in a few weeks.
I haven't decided what I want to do for motor mods yet .. I might tune it, and I might do the a cam swap and a tune.

I love my 6.2 F150 Lariat 4x4 Screw. I was very surprised how well this engine does on gas for a big block. I get any where 14.5 to 16 in town depending how I drive it and on the road easily get 18.5 running on the flat lands of Arizona and some times 19. I usually run 65-70 on the Interstates. I recently did a 400 mile tow with my 10,000 lb plus toy hauler and averaged 8.4 going into our mountain country and return home. I didn't think that was bad at all. I had all power I needed and the 6.2 did not disappoint in that department. The engine braking was great using the Select Shift Transmission feature. I hardly had to touch my brakes on steep inclines. Very stable towing too I might add.

My 2012 5.0 is easily 2+ MPG better than my 2006 5.4 and with more power to boot. All of Ford's lineup (cars too) is pretty impressive and has come a long way in the last few years....although coming from pretty awfull makes improvement easier.
That being said...and I get the whole 6.2 thing...15 MPG would be hard on the wallet if you drive much. I drive 22-28,000 miles per year....let's use 25,000 to make the math easy. 15 mpg would mean 1667 gallons of fuel. 18 mpg would mean 1389 gallons. 278 extra gallons at $3.8 is $1,057/year....about $7500 if I keep it 7 years on top of the initial upgrade engine cost.

If you tow and/or need raw power *AND* want halfway decent gas mileage when you drive conservatively, that's what the Ecoboost is for. If you don't need that much power, that's what the 5.0 is for.
Yes, the 6.2 gets decent mileage for what it is, but it's still less than the EB or the 5.0.
