TBC without tow
#2
I haven't but, is the TBC harness behind the change tray near the 4x4 selector switch? If it is I would suspect the other end to be near the flat 4 connector. If that's the case it's a pretty simple install, you have to install a fuse under the hood, install 7pin connector at the bumper then have the computer flashed at the dealer.

you will have to run two wires from the cab (#1) one for the 12v batter charging (#2) will be for the brakes. then you can go to ford and get the right 4/7pin plug harness and redo it under the spar tire to the bumper for your plug's. i have read where others did this but i could not tell you where to connect the two wires to in the cab

The TBC is going to need a direct fused connection to the battery and then back to the 7 Pin connector. Run another direct connection (fused) back from the battery as well. The 7 pin connector should have a wiring guide on what connections to make., however the following is standard. The new connections are for the Brake Controller Voltage and the Auxiliary 12VDC to the trailer and Reverse Lights. If you do not have reverse lights on the trailer, don't hook it up. Other than that, reuse the wires on your existing connector by splicing into them. Make sure to use 12ga wire for the contoller input and output to the connector , the Auxiliary 12VDC and your ground connection. Do not need as heavy a gage for the lights. A 16ga should do it.

for some things yes. If he had all the proper wiring there i'd agree but when you have to go splicing in wires, adding a wiring harness, etc. I'd be more inclined to save myself some money and time and go with an aftermarket unit.
Did you find that thread i was talking about?

06yz250f It doesn't matter whether I go factory or aftermarket either way I will have to splice into the wiring harness. Right now I'm trying to find out if I can get the factory harness that includes all the wiring necessary to run a 7 pin plug so I don't have to splice anything. If I had known it was going to be this hard to add towing I would have waited on another truck.

ya i don't remember where the plug harness is i think it over the spare tire or under the spare how ever you look at it. but for some reason ford did use the two different types in this application. i have read to different post on another site where the extra wires are ran and use to add the tow package for the brakes and 12 charging if you add a 3RD wire you'll be able to have reverse light on a trailer.
