Ecoboost getting downgraded trailer weight rateings ?

Please let me know if someone else found this and i missed the boat.

Today i was just looking at the 2012 Ford F-150 configuration tool. on ford .com. The towing weights are NOW Listed different than when i ordered my 2012 in March !

NOW the only way to get big towing numbers on a 4x4 super crew Ecoboost is to get 4.10 rear end gears, Before it was listed the same for 3.73 with the E-Locker {of course you need the Max tow pkg }

What i'm saying is when i built my truck i was under the impresion it would tow 11,200lbs Now the same site says if i order a 2012 today { i know they are only makeing 2013's now} My tow rateing would be 9,600lbs.

Something has changed here!!!!!

AM I CRAZY ??

Tow ratings are becoming standardized according to J2807 standards.
For instance one manufacturer would release tow numbers based on 1 150lb driver and no cargo, while another would release a tow number with 1 200lb driver and 1 200lb passenger and 300lbs of cargo.

Ford has decided to come out with the "true" ratings in 2013. But maybe they decided to come out with them sooner?

Unless I am reading this wrong, it still shows the same as what you originally said the rating was? Nothing changed from what I can tell?

Doesn't matter anyway - you will be over GVWR before you hit the max tow rating.

Isn't the GCWR much higher than the GVWR? As long as your tongue weight doesn't overload your truck you can tow to the maximum combined weight.

True, but with a trailer that is properly loaded, the tongue weight is going to put you near or over the payload rating of the truck by the time you put a couple people, a full tank of fuel and anything at all in the truck. It doesn't take long to eat into your available payload.

Those 11k+ lb. tow ratings are great...on paper!

The tongue weight WILL overload the truck before you hit the max tow number.

Quite honestly, anybody towing 11,200 pounds with a half ton pickup needs their head examined anyway. That's a decent load even for a Super Duty.

Well said!

My fifth wheel is 8k empty, and I wouldn't tow it with a half ton. My family's safety is just too important to me...
