Cost to replace stock differential

I want to get a limited slip or locking differential for my:
2010 Ford 150 XL Reg Cab
4.6L 2V EFI V8 Engine
Electronic 4-speed automatic overdrive.

Anyone have a idea how much this would cost?

Thanks!

I just paid $515 shipped for an Eaton "Detroit" TrueTrac L/S. Plus I paid about $140 for carrier bearings.

If it was my truck, I'd look for either an aftermarket E-locker, Air locker or just go with limited slip. For the cost it's going to cost to convert a factory locker, i see it being more feasible to go aftermarket.

I have about $1100 into my ARB air locker (& ARB HD compressor), but only $325 into my mechanical locker. It all depends on brand and use you are looking for out of the product you choose. To me, the $1100 was worth it. My mechanical will be pulled eventually for another ARB.

What are your reasons for thinking you need the locker?

I just want to get a little farther in before I GET STUCK!

I drive on desert gravel roads with a little bit of sand from time to to time. I guess I just want to have a better chance of not getting stuck.

If you don't mind spending the money, then yes. They make a HUGE improvement offroad and are worth it.

What kind of budget are you looking at?
have you decided if you want a LS, mechanical locker or selectable locker?

Budget is flexible.
What is the best bang for the buck (LS, mechanical locker or selectable )?

Just depends on what you think fits your needs. I'll never put a mechanical locker in a vehicle again, to me a selectable is worth it but to you it might not.

mechanical is cheaper, but on road manners sacrifice.

Selectable is more expensive but on road manners stay the same, while offroad traction improves. Also less strain on the rear axle due to it being open diff 99% of the time

LS, good on road manners and decent off road manners.

A L/S on a two wheel drive vehicle will probably fit your needs.

Every vehicle I've owned has had a L/S rear end, except for my Super Beetle.

Borned and raised on a farm back n da day and all our trucks were 2 WD with L/S (Posi-Traction) and they performed really well. (4x4 trucks were rare back then)

If we did run into traction probs, we just threw on some tire chains and problem solved.

My 78 E-150 had L/S and even with going thru a couple of blizzards while traveling, never had a problem but I did carry a set of tire chains.

OK, I think I will go with a limited slip differential.
What parts do I need and where do I get them?
What do you think labor would cost?

Call some off road shops, or drivetrain shops and tell them what you want. They should work up a price.

Chances are, you will get a better deal buying and getting work done all at once place vs. buying parts and bringing them in.

Is this a good unit?

I am actually in the process of re gearing my truck at putting an Eaton TrutTac in mine
the Trutrac is a good unit a lot of Mustang owners run them
Just ordered the gears for 139 and I found the TruTrac from jegs for 419

It's a great unit. I run them in my F150 and my Bronco. But depending on which engine you have you may have a 9.75" 34 spline rear end.
