WTH 2010 mpg

Dunno what has happened but my mpg has tanked in the last couple weeks. Normally I was gettin 17 during the week to work and home and coming to farm I was around 18-19. Noticed few weeks ago I was suckin down the gas during the week, dash read 15.3. And I was goin through a lot more during the week. Just came up to farm last night and it almost went through double the amount. Dash read 13.4, and it was lacking some serious power. Has a clean air filter and almost 6k on oil and will be changing that this week. Any explanation?
Thanks

Hit up a local parts depot, and check the truck for codes with their free OBDII reader. Good a place to start as any, and it's free.

Mileage

I notice my mileage has jumped all over the place since fall. Not more than 3 to 4 mpg though. I get different mpg all the time. This is driving the same route each day and filling up every morning. But I buy gas at different places all the time. I think a lot has to do with the amount of ethanol in the gas and the winter mix gas. Just my opinion from my experience. Truck runs perfect, no codes etc. My daily driver is an old 78 Chevy step side 4x4 for winter driving. I keep track of my mileage in it too. I can see 3 to 4 mpg difference in different gas stations. But a couple months later, the station giving the better mileage slipped to the bottom and anothers gas gave me better mpg. Not saying this is true everywhere but it is something I have noticed here in the Northeast with my Ford and old Chevy.

I was wondering if it was just winter vs summer blends. But never noticed it last year. Kinda sucks that's for sure

How many miles on the truck? Might be due for a tune up.

Just for arguments sake, what exactly are you referring to as a tune-up? Any specific recommendations for him outside of the Owners Manual?

I am under the impression that if you follow the Owners Manual for scheduled maintenance, that any and all "tune up" aspects are covered.

I doubt there's anything wrong with your truck and at this point in the winter season, you've been using winter grade fuels for a couple of months. So, that's not a factor. I would suspect that you've just gone thru a colder stretch. Artic air will drop mileage down a good bit.

Just my 2 cents

Winter air is much more dense especially here in the the great white north. That said a much more fuel is required to compensate and maintain the proper AFR from idle up to WOT.

Has 47k on it. We have been a little chilly here in st Louis but not that cold. It was 34 on the way to farm when I was gettin 13. Comin home it only got 15 and it is a smoother ride comin home. (Less hills)
