Navteq update

$200? I'd wait until the map has significantly changed before I drop that kind of coin.
Really though, that's the reason I've stayed away from factory installed Nav Units. I'll stick with my nGroove CD slot mount and Sygic app on my smartphone. Sygic's North America map costs $40. Most of the Earth costs $100.

That's odd you need an update so soon. We just received a Navteq update for $200 with a $25 Visa gift card. It was for our 2009 Edge. I went ahead and did it because we have a few freeways that have been built that weren't on our NAV. The design & screens look no different. It does take about 5 hours to fully update. You can drive around and start stop your car while updating.

For what it's worth. I have an 09 with Factory Nav. We took a cross country road trip last year and it was Awesome ! Only issue, and it was small. Stopping in Vegas the Interstate had added an exit or two but we were familiar with the exits enough to not follow it. Again not an issue. I have not done an update yet on it. In comparison I have a Garmin I received last summer and took it with us on a Trip that we flew into Florida and rented car for a few days. There is no COMPARISON.... Factory was wayyy better in my opinion. Garmin would have been ok if I was not using my Ford Nav first.
After the big road trip it makes you really trust it. We took maps but only used it to plan what we wanted to see and than put in Nav. Finding the Gas stations and prices was great way out in no man's land. Good in Cali for the costly fuel out there.

I have a 2012 and did some research to make sure my versions were up to date. Turns out that I have v4.x and the latest software is 5.x. Depending on what you read, 4.x and 5.x are essentially the same thing. (This is firmware, not map version).
Maps are released roughly once a year and usually in the summer (June) time frame.
I'm holding out for better firmware. Every highway in the DFW area is under major construction right now so I think it's best to wait a year or two until the maps update with new lanes / exits. But I'd buy the upgrade if the firmware could update from the older look and feel to the newer MFT look and feel. I somehow doubt any developmental updates will go in to our older system for visual updates though given everything has moved to the new MFT system.
My maps look generally like this:
