Clean on dragster, yeah that equates to your F150

 

Just put 33 inch Michelin LTX AT2's on my 2011 eco boost. They replaced the stock tires. Also did a heart throb exhaust. Did the exhaust 2 days before the tires. Could really feel the increase in performance. After the exhaust and tires the mpg is down by about 1 1/2 per gallon. Have not had any recalibration done.

The fact that a skatey-bazillion $$$$$ NHRA team would expend the time and effort to extract every ounce of aerodynamic efficiency possible SHOULD mean something ... After all - Every litter bit helps.

In the MythBuster case it meant +7.7%

My point is.....YOU'RE DRIVING A TRUCK Not a race prepped dragster. Clean to your vehicle, means...most likely nothing. Unless of course your ride is sponsored by NHRA.

 

What are some of your guys MPG? Right now i'm at 14.9

 

What size 33"...a P rated 33" will be a lot lighter then a LT rated one which will make a big difference in fuel mileage. Also is your truck a 4x2 or 4x4 and is it leveled. All these factor in what mileage you'll get. As stated above the best gas saving device is your right foot and use of the cruise control.

 

I wish they made more tires "p" rated in 33"

 

just did a comparison. michelin LTX AT2 p275/65/18 are 45 lbs each. next size up that is 33 inch is the LT275/70/18 are 59 lbs each. not thinking 14 pds more is all that much.

i went from the stock to the michelin LT275/70/18 and my mileage dropped about 1 to 1 1/2 per gallon. i also put a heartthrob on the ecoboost also.

 

Stole this from UserError from the somebody complaining of their EB losing a good chunk of MPG after tire change:

"Yeah each pound you added in rotating mass... is equal to 8 lbs of steady weight. so if you added 200 lbs of rotating weight it's like throwing 1600 lbs in your bed and driving around with it. Plus if you changed offsets and your wheels/ tires stick out more they catch air which is drag... that also cuts MPG... you're right with me... I'm getting 12.8 on my 5.4 in town with a little intersate after changing wheels and tires and going to E Rated tires which are much heavier. I also added an AS 2 inch leveling kit and blocks in the back so I lost 3/4 of an inch on my 1.5 inch rake. I didn't notice any change in MPG with that which everyone else says they loose with the level. I did mine at seperate times so I could see which one actually changed MPG and it was all tires n wheels..."

If you believe this logic, and I do, I've read similar stuff over the years then 14 lbs is a big deal!

 

305/55/20 Falken rocky Mountain and it is 4x4, basiclly the same truck you have but silver. At from what I see in your sig pic!

 

interesting info about the weight of tires translating into actual carried wieght. i cant see it formulated that way but will admit you or where ever you got that info from may be correct.

2 things are for sure:
1. You don't put bigger, heavier tires on your truck if you are concerned about MPG's
2. A comparison of an F150 truck to a Funny Car is actually funny!

 

of course, ones a truck and ones a car, duh? haha
