Navi not working correctly?!?!?!

I have a friend with a 13 F150 Platinum 4X4. Shortly after he got it, he noticed that the "arrow" for the nav was off. It was a good 300+yrds behind where it should be while driving a straight line. If you took a turn, lets say onto a brigde, it will show him driving in the water far from the road on the map. So he brought it into Ford and they reset the unit and its still doing it. Has anybody else had this issue?

After some research it seams that his larger than stock tires are ONE cause of it. But, he had the issue with the stock tires its just more screwed up now with the bigger tires.

Ford as of right now, isnt blaming his tires as a/the cause, we just have found that info online. If Ford does pull that, we will install my tires and go from there.

Can ford recalibrate for tire size or must he go with a custom tune? Ford tells me that they can only recalibrate for tire sizes offered by Ford on the F150 models.

Anybody on here have this issue with or withOUT larger than OEM tires and got it fixed? What does Ford do when they sell lifted truck directly from the dealer?

The tire size should have nothing to do with GPS positioning. There's a fault somewhere, where the Nav system is interpreting and displaying his satellite-verified position wrongly.

He probably needs a new Nav module/system installed by Ford to fix it. Interference can cause it - I had a friend with a handheld GPS and his cell phone caused it to think he was in Ohio all the time, even though he's on the East Coast. He eventually had to buy a new GPS.

Actually there isnt a TRUE GPS positioning system in the truck. I was told by a friend of mine that is a Ford Master Tech that the Nav uses the trucks computer to get MPH which WOULD be affected by the tire size. This was also confirmed by another dealership we called.

He basically said thats a way of make the truck cheaper. Instead of 54,200 its only 54,000 was the example he used.

BUT this issue was a problem before the larger tires, its just more off now with the bigger tires.

We are also being told that Ford knows about this issue and is working on a fix.

Well he isnt a type of person that waits. He would spend a dime to get a nickle next day air over waiting a week to get it for free. He will order a programmer today if he knew 100% if that would correct the issue. The problem is that nobody can confirm or deny weather or not it will.

I doubt that a programmer will fix it, being that Ford is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

However...........

A programmer would be advisable, for nothing else other than correcting the speedo/odo. Wouldn't hurt to get some custom tunes if you go that way.

Yeah, he plans to get one, one day that is. Hes mostly concerned with getting this issue fixed first before adding a tune cause as it looks it may be back and fourth to the dealer to resolve this issue.

I changed from 18s to 20s on my truck and even with out recalibrating the speedometer, the gps it almost dead on. The speedo is off by about 3 mph at 60 mph. I would have to disagree that it's a tire size issue based on my own experience.

My buddy at Ford called me this evening and said the tech that reset it only did a simple reset through the head unit. He said to bring it in for a master reset that takes about 4hrs.

Will post up details after.

This issue is only showing up on 2013 model trucks. I know, I changed my tires from 275/55/20 to 275/60/20 and now my navi is royally screwed.

Well, then that means the 2009-2012 trucks use an actual GPS, while the 2013+ trucks use speed sensors and stuff - and I guess that explains the price difference - $795 IIRC for nav in the new trucks, and it's a standalone option (one you get MyFord Touch), versus $2,495 for the 09-12 trucks (incl. Sony 10-speaker, touch screen and HD + Sirius radio).

Okay, if that's the case, how does the system know where it is to start off with?

There was a TSB issued on March 20 2013 for this problem according to the Moderator on the Sync My Ride community forum. He did not give the TSB number, but the dealers do know about this because a few users on that forums have appointments to have the update done early next week. According to information on the forum Ford is reprogramming the gpsm.
