Has anyone heard anything else about the 2014 F-150's? This is the last model year before the next gen F-150 for 2015.

If they could somehow get an average of 25 MPG, I'd probably get over the negative connotation that a primarily aluminum truck has. Anything short of that, and they can keep their aluminum trucks. But Ford will figure out a way to maintain towing capabilities and stability, if they'll suffer otherwise

I think V8's will fade away or get much smaller displacement. Even with GM and their 4cyl mode there is only so much they can do with 5 liters of fuel burning capacity.
I get frustrated about the diesels and fuel economy. I know my 2002 7.3L PSD would do a solid 19-21 mpg in a 9k lb excursion and ran trouble free for 10 years 265k miles. But my 08 with 6.4L got 12-16mpg with the regeneration and emissions. It was in the shop often. How is burning twice as much fuel better for the Earth or my pocket? Heck we had 12 valve Cummins trucks nearing 30mpg in the 90's. Off the soap box...

These days, it's ALL about gas mileage - NOT real world mileage but EPA numbers, due to ever-tightening CAFE requirements. All you have to do is read threads here to see that people are getting widely varying real world mileage. A prime example are the folks that are seeing worse mileage in 3.7 trucks than 5.0 trucks.
With this in mind, they are going to have to severely limit the number of 6.2 trucks sold and start pushing both V6's hard. The 3.7 and EB both have better EPA numbers than the 5.0. So far, only Ram has hit the 25 mpg highway EPA numbers, with the 3.6 and 8 speed.
I can possibly see the 3.2 I5 diesel from the Transit coming in the F-150 one of these days if the EPA numbers are favorable.

I thought the re-design is due for the 2014 year model. Ford did 5 year model re-designs, 2004 - 2008 then 2009 - 2013, so I think in 2014 a complete re-design is due.

In a full size supercrew, doublecab, megacab truck you won't see the mpgs. If you did everyone would be buying them. As always those mpg numbers are usually base model trucks, small v6's, with higher geared trannies and most likely a single cab. Same goes with the payload numbers, once you start adding the features etc the payload numbers are all the same or worse than the competition.
