clunking when going into 4WD

Still getting used to the new (to me) 2011 4x4. Haven't needed 4wd yet, but decided to test it out the other day. I had done this one some new ones I'd driven and was surprised at how smoothly and quietly it shifted. When I did it on mine, there was a noticeable "clunk". I would have expected this had I not experienced something different on the new ones.

Is this normal? I may have been on an incline/accelerating with mine (and not with the new ones), but before I go fooling around w/ it again, I thought I'd check.

If you have a load on it when you engage it, of course it's going to clunk.
