Another Which to get, EB or 5.0 Thread....

I previously had a F-150 SC. But tried the car thing for awhile. But I never got over missing having a Truck. I have narrowed down my choice to a FX2 Super Crew. I'm just not sure about the motor choice. I have been reading and searching this site for awhile. I just figure one more thread of info can't hurt. My main concerns will be MPG and longevity. My daily commute is about 35 miles each way. All flat interstate driving at around 70. I also don't plan on trailering anything. Or going off-road. Any info or opinions will be gladly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The 5.0 should be more than adequate for what you need. From reading all the other threads here, people are getting both great and crappy mileage with both engines. If you aren't towing you don't need the low end torque of the EB, and there is some skepticism about the EB long term reliability.

Have 56,000 on my 5.0 and not one problem. I get 20 to 22 mpg on the highway running 70, depending on wind. A head wind kills mileage. It would be my engine choice again, for sure.

i drove both and really liked both... Was doing a deal on a 5.0 but ended up the ecoboost. It was cheaper and with better options than the 5.0..

I am really happy with the engine, Got the truck with 30miles on it 1st fillup was 16.8, 2nd 17.3,3rd 17.8 this tank should get around 18.4 or 18.5. Right now sitting at 850 miles on it.. So the fuel mileage is getting better with every tank..

If you dont mind missing the v8 sound then i would really consider the ecoboost.. The torque is pretty impressive on it...

Also the ecoboost mpgs is rated better on the highway.. I expect to see 21 easily in a few more miles.

In the real world, this doesn't really seem to be the case.

Well the op stated driving on flat road at 70mph mist of the time. That is where the eb should maybe squeak a few more mpgs.. It really just depends on the driver.. The small short highway runs I've made it sits about 21.4mpg if the wind is pretty calm.. Never drive over 15 miles though on the highway yet. The computer seems to be about .1 mpgs high so far
We are headed to Fort Worth in a few weeks will be interesting what I get cruising 75 to 80.. The 5.4s usually avg 16.8 to 17.4 at that speed

Heck I'd go with the 6.2 if I were in the market for a new truck.

It looks like most of the EB issues were resolved within the last month or so. Reliability is going to depend entirely on how you treat your truck. I personally had a bad experience with an EB, and due to the fixes I am looking at another f150.

Powerful, reliable, gas mileage not so hot, expensive option.

They've actually been getting decent mileage numbers. Perfect for someone like me who doesn't drive much except for the weekends, just like my current truck. My 5.4 averages 17.5 mpg.

Even if you could eek out a little better mileage with the Eco, the price difference will take forever to break even. As said, with what you want the truck for, go with the 5.0. My SCREW Platinum w/3500 miles, and 3.31 gears showed 21.4 at 70 mph on a 500 mile run down I-95 from North Carolina to Florida just yeaterday. And, in the city will return a solid 16 mpg's. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Price difference? I looked at trucks within a 300 mile range and all ecoboost and 5.0's were close to the same price if not same price. My Eco was cheaper than the 5.0 and the 5.0 didn't have the rear locking diff or the chrome package

That is very different from when I bought. The EB was 750 more.

Guess they are just trying to get rid of them. Grapevine Ford, 5 star ford up in ft worth. Arrow ford in Abilene, and Sewell in midland they were all about the same.thats why I bought mine here locally.. Not much difference at all between the dealerships
