Thrid grear is weird in my 5.0 2011 FX4
I bought a 2011 FX4 crew cab in the begining of march with 15,500 on the clock and now I have 18,600 on the clock. I love the truck but the tranny is weird. I do not like the constant searching for gears because it wants to go right to 6th all the time.
The weird thing is, when it shifts to third and more noticible if your on the throttle, it seems the sec it shifts into third the RPMS seem to sit there for a sec before climbing. The only way to describe it is, ever see a motor on an engine dyno how it is WOT but the dyno holds it back then lets the RPM's climb it almost feels and sounds like that.
Anyone else notice this?
The other thing I hate is the drive by wire, it SUCKS!
Sorry about my title spelling LOL! I can spell I swear.

I've driven four F150's with the 6-speed, which all did what you describe. I've driven my truck with the 3.7, test drove an '11 with the 5.0 and drove two with the EB. I don't know why they do this.
If you check out videos of the F150 or Mustang with the 6-speed auto, you will hear that they do this.
Drive by wire, especially in these F150's, really, REALLY sucks!

You are probably speaking of the converter lock-up in third. These tranny's are different animals than anything I have ever driven. I owned an '11 XLT with a 3.7L, and the tranny preformed the same as the '13 Platinum with the 5.0L I now own. It's a gas saving thing, and if we're on the same page it's normal.
If I'm speaking of something different, it would be a good idea to check with the dealer. As stated previously it may just need a reflash. The dealer should be able to check to see if a reflash has been done on the truck. Good luck.
