The ecoboost's are going for the same amount as the 5.0's right now, atleast around my area.. Hell my 13 with the ecoboost, elocker, sync etc was cheaper than a 5.0 that had less options.. I would suggest taking a ecoboost for a drive if the price difference is close..

I drove the 5.0 and really liked it but when i got in the ecoboost and nailed the throttle at 20mph and it screamed the tires till it hit 2nd gear thats when i decided to go for the eco.. No regrets so far with it

lol

I'll try and find one. I've been scouring dealership inventories, autotrader, and cars.com for a couple weeks now and haven't found any lower mileage ecoboosts with the options she wants for 25k or under. I've decided $25k is my absolute max I'll spend.

I just feel like an NA V8 is a better setup for towing though. Turbo's require exhaust backpressure to spool up and aren't a proportional output to what your throttle input is. I'd be willing to bet that the partial throttle characteristics of that V8 5.0 are much more predictable. Which is where I think the benefit for towing would really come in over a turbo V6.

I wouldn't do any vehicle deals while she yer girlfriend....imo...not unless her name is on everything and you haven't co-signed nothing....otherwise it could get ugly if you ever breakup with her.....

^ that. But, if you want to spend $25k or less, look at some 09s or even 07-08 (unless you have to have a new body style). The cost of an 09+ body style truck without the 11+ motors seems silly and your paying thousands mostly for appearance. As far as function is concerned, I see no point in buying a new body style without the new motor. If her budget started as 17k and you're only "need" is to tow your car around, I say look at an older truck. Certainly an 09 over a 10 purely for cost. Also, the best comparison for a 09/10 vs. an 11 would be a 5.4 (not 4.6) vs 5.0

I hear you on the 5.4, but the 4.6L 3V just seems to me a better engine from those years. It's only down about 20hp but has way better fuel economy.

Either way, I've made up my mind to go with the '11+

As far as getting the truck with her... I should clarify that. My name is going to be on everything and hers on nothing. To keep out of a long story, I want her to feel like it's her vehicle (she's been pretty unlucky with rare genetic disorder and being broke her whole life) but has a really positive attitude and is fun to be around. She lives rent free, so more she's just contributing the payment. Whether you look at it as her paying a portion of rent/utilities, or her paying for the truck doesn't really make a difference.
She gets something nice to feel like it's hers for a change and she just finished her masters degree so I think it's going to be nice for her to feel like she's earned something for all the hard work.

Anyway, she understands if we break up the truck is going to be sold, or I'll keep it as a daily driver vehicle. Either way any equity in it is mine which is fair as I've supported her for the past several years, and she understands that. I'm paying for the taxes on the truck out of pocket anyway which is going to be around $2k.

oh sorry, so used to it displaying under the avatar. I thought i entered it when i registered.

I'm in Kansas City.

I've been searching some more for the ecoboost and have found a few. A 2011 with lower mileage and clean title for $23k, except it's white and she doesn't want white. It's also got the open 3.15 regular axle which I'm not a huge fan of, heard the 3.55 is way better for towing and doesn't sacrifice fuel economy much. But it's also a great deal. I emailed it to her, we'll see what she thinks.

3.15 will of course get a little better mpg.. But i would definetlly go 3.55's I've been able to pull off about 3 tanks of 20mpg. My last tank was premium gas and got 20.6 mpg (best ever) with the 3.55's

That's definitely a lot, no doubt, but where did you get 112/86 from?

edited original post to include advertised numbers.
Sorry, the specs I posted were for the 2V 4.6 not the 3V. Still, 70hp and 60 tq is a big difference.

Its crazy the difference in prices around your area... I found this one but was shocked with the price they are wanting.. This is what i paid for my 13 before taxes

that truck here would be the 23k to 25k range

This is all amazing me as well. Hell, buying a truck is quite the investment as far as vehicles though. They all decrease in value, of course, but the depreciation is as close to nonexistent as you can get. No wonder Desertdog trades em in all the time, he's barely losing any money haha.

Coy, we're gonna have to stop using you as an example for out of Texas buyers! Haha

yeah, which is why i was psyched with the deals I found for the trucks in the OP.

I thought they were great relative to what I had been seeing. Then the internet's tells me it's still way overpriced. If I can get that '11 F150 Supercrew w/ 5.0 V8 down to about 24k I'll buy it. At least you guys have provided me some very good ammunition for when i go in on Saturday, I'll let you all know what happens.

Appreciate all the advice.

I'd love the ecoboost engine, but I'm also only mid 20s and have lots of life left to get the really good stuff. I think I'll be plenty happy with the 5.0 and the money saved.

wow, thank you!

It's got the 3.31 electronic locking diff which is nice, but I don't think she'll want the 163" wheelbase :/. Also she needs the power adjust pedals as she's tiny lol.

But I'm looking through their other offers. No doubt I'll be in Saturday morning talking to them. So thank you!
