I totally get that

On the plus side... 5 tire rotation ftw! Best value for the money invested instead of 4 tires taking all the wear and a spare tire that never sees the pavement 9 times out of 10

Almost all new high mpg or sports cars come with fix a flat instead of having the dead weight of a spare.

Make sure he knows that he can put normal tires on it next go round. Run flats aren't worth it, just call AAA.

I'd be pissed if there WAS a matching spare under my truck. That means I would've payed for it when I bought my truck. Ain't nobody got money for that!

BMWs (cars) haven't had spares for almost a decade. Lots of new American cars don't have them either

its a squeeze because its wider than factory so it hangs down lower. Its actually shorter diameter than stock.

Well, my 2008 Jeep Wragler came with a matching spare; same aluminum wheel and same tire; oh, and it cost me $15,000 less.

Guess my expectations were too high...........or, maybe that is what we get when we don't complain.

It's the same size is all that matters....yer 20's are just plus 2 sized over it.....same height and same width....run yer numbers and you'll see

BTW....I'd never want a Chrome wheel under the bed especially where I live....that road salt would pit it up **** nasty bad
its a different story when the wheel is mounted to the back tailgate where it can be cleaned and everyone can see it....

lots of sedans are now coming with a can of fix a flat. imagine the surprise they get when they go to change the tire that blew out. I'll gladly accept my brand new 18" on a black steel wheel all day.

It isn't a waste of money, since you can do a 5 tire rotation. This has two key benefits:

1. Better chance spare tire is properly inflated
2. Winch system that holds tire up gets used and doesn't sieze up. My coworker's 2010 had a flat 2 weeks ago, and the winch broke when the dealership tried to put the spare back under the truck. Since it was out of warranty, Josh had to pay for the replacement of the winch. Not cheap!

IIRC the SRX has different sized tires front and rear? Hard to have a spare if you really need two.....

As long as the spare tire OD matches the rest of them, who cares.

I have 22" wheels and my spare is a 17" rim, but the OD's match and I don't lose sleep over it.

My tire and wheel size now match. I kinda had to. A 255/70/17 would have been a bit awkward with the rest of the tires being 285/70/17. Surprisingly, it still fit under the truck just like the stock spare did.

My XLT has the exact same tire for a spare as it does on the other 4. The wheel is steel, but both 17 inch. What I did on my 2010 is when I got new tires, I just bought 3 new ones and then used the new spare on one of the aluminum rims, and put the best worn out tire on the spare steel wheel and parked it back under the truck. That way, a brand new tire doesn't go to waste hanging under the truck, and I saved about 200 bucks.

I will do the same on this truck as well.

Not really. A temporary spare tire isn't the same size as any of the other tires already on the car. What would it matter if the temporary were sized to replace any of the tires?

The problem with a different size spare is if you have to put it on the rear with a limited slip diff. This can cook the clutches.
