What's the gizmo on my '09 dash?

I noticed this morning there's a small widget on the windshield side of the tray in the center of my dash, a little deal about an inch by a half inch. It's loose and I can pull it up out of the dash, but it's connected by wiring.

I looked in the owners manual and didn't see anything about it.....what in the world is this? And should it be loose or should it be snapped into the dash?

That's where the auto headlight sensor goes

Thanks - that's what I had guessed it was. My truck doesn't have the auto headlight feature - do they put the sensor in even on trucks not equipped with it? Should it be loose in there like it is?

Yes as it also controls whether the dash lights are lit or not when the parking/headlights are on.

Yea, it also dims your dash at night I think. During the daylight, if you put something over it, it will dim the radio lights a bunch and you can't read it.

Does that mean I need to call Dashmat and tell them to change my order? I ordered a dash cover without the sensor and it's sounding like maybe I got it wrong. I'd hate to screw up a vital function.

Thanks - I'm going to call them this morning and do just that.
