Thanks! Silver is sharp in it's own right, and MUCH easier to keep clean then dark colors.

After doing a search for ecoboost vs 5.0 on youtube I found the 3.0 ecodiesel on the 14 ram 1500's. And it got me thinking why doesn't ford offer a diesel in the 1/2 tons, then I realized they don't need to. They have the ecoboost. It makes tons of torque down low just like a diesel, but with out that horrid smell, and gasoline is cheaper than diesel fuel.

Ok fire away, flame suit on.

Ford is in wait and see mode on the Ram light diesel. It was in the works several years ago until fuel costs skyrocketed, and was dropped in favor of the Ecoboost. The only way a diesel will sell well in a half ton is if it will pull 30mpg, which wont happen with the current tech and emission restrictions. They just plain cost too much unfortunately.

I actually like the smell of diesel exhaust, reminds me of the Army days.

I understand the wait and see stance, but I don't think ford needs to worry. The ecobeast has all the advantages of a light diesel w/o the negatives. Tons of torque down low good mileage and no smell.

I know how you feel about the diesel smell, I used to turn wrenches for a living and I love the smell of fresh ATF, just the diesel smell actually makes me physically sick.

The new emissions makes the diesel smell quite different, kind of a sweet sulfur smell.

I agree with you. And I drive a diesel. It's just not necessary in a half ton with the EcoBoost available. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 3.2L I5 from the Transit show up in the F150 though...

Im glad I did becuase before I drove the 5.0 I had it in my head I wanted the ecoboost. Best of luck with your decision.
My 5.0L pulls my trailer effortlessly. Couldn't believe how strong down low it was when pulling my Jay Flight 26BH. I had a similar 2010 F150 with the 5.4L and 6 speed trans but with the 3.55LS axle as the 3.73 wasn't an option for an XLT then. The 5.0L pulled so much better down low despite the 5.4L supposedly have better low end end torque. The proof is in the pudding! I also get the same mpg as the 5.4L when pulling or slight better from 10.5 - 11.0. I also get 2 to 3 mpg better with mixed driving and expressway, best was 21 expressway and 19.5 mpg mixed but I did drive very passive.

I wanted an Ecoboost as well when I seen them come out but quickly read of their problems in their first model year, 2011. Now it's 2013 and that problems still exists. No way would I consider it. The 5.0L is the best all around motor. It's a great truck for commuting with good mpg and a great tow vehicle with more than enough power down low and high!

Plus as an added bonus on the 5.0L Crew Cab 4WD 5.5' bed truck, the GVWR is a higher 7350 lbs for more payload while pulling your camper! The same truck with an Ecoboost only gets a 7200 lbs GVWR. The Ecoboost with the Max Tow package (which isn't available for the 5.0L) goes up to 7650 lbs but the package weighs 75 lbs if you do the math. That equates to a gain of only 225 lbs on paper. Also the rear axle upgrade for the Max Tow package only is an increase of 200 lbs. Subtract that extra 75 lbs of weight and you have a net difference of only 125 lbs of actual capacity.

You do gain a heavier duty hitch rated for an extra 100 lbs but with a travel trailer's heavier 13% - 14% tongue weigh, you'll be lucky to use it before overloading your axles or payload. I guess if you tow a car carrier or boat you won't have as heavy a tongue weight but boats and car carriers aren't all that heavy anyhow to use the extra hitch capacity. My truck was optioned with a 3.73 locking axle and trailer brake controller so the only thing I miss is the mirrors. I had them on the 2010 and wasn't that fond of them. Maybe if my **** Custom Tow mirrors don't work out, I'll get them again, but doubtful.

5' X 10' trailer ??? That's not a trailer, it's a cart.

I pulled the trailer in my signature up against a 2011/2012 F250 diesel pulling a 32' toy hauler travel trailer. I Passed him on a hill and left him in the dust.

Now do I think he had inadequate power?? NO! I think he was just a slower driver. I was going no faster than 65 mph.

Why no faster than 65 mph?? Because that's all a trailer tire is rated for. I can't believe you were going 90 mph with a trailer. If your tires would had blown, you would had caused a pretty bad crash that would likely had cost you your life and maybe someone else around you.

Tires are rated at 65 mph and they will blow. I've been witness to this several time by ignorant people knowing no better.

So now that you know, please stay with in the speed capacity of the tires.
Thanks.

To his credit, he did mention elsewhere that he has different tires on his trailer. Not that I will condone pulling a trailer at 90, but his tires are probably rated fine.

if a 5x10trailer tire blew the truck would just drag it around until he stopped. We're not talking an enclosed 20+ft.

Heck I had a 22' salmon boat and trailer have the whole hub assembly tear off at about 50 mph and all I felt was a little tug and drag. And this was in a 2002 f150. It didn't have all that fancy stuff on it you guys have

This has been debated at rv.net and it turns out that most don't want a puny 3.0L that only has 240 hp and 420 lbs of torque. What most people wanted was a 4.0L diesel that would provide adequate 300 hp and excellent 600 lbs of torque.

The 3.0L is anemic just like the Ram payload. Guess they're trying to compete with the VW, BMW, and Merc cars with their little 3.0L diesels. Afterall the truck does have a coil spring car suspension with the payload of a car.
