Grille, Headlights, & Wheel Switch
I was able to make some changes to my ‘09 FX4 relatively cheaply by scanning the local online classifieds.
Picked up the 6 bar grille with a damaged Ingot Silver surround for 70.00. Separated the inner 6 bar grille from the
silver surround and replaced my 3 bar using my Flame Blue surround. Picked up the HD heads and tails for 250.00
New style 20” FX wheels for 600.00. Orange reflector and bug shield delete. I am happy with the new look.

Thanks all for your replies.
Canadianelbow: I am definitely going to do this mod. Cheap & easy and looks good. Thanks for the tip.
Mossbum: They come out very easily with no tab breakage if you pry from the correct end. You want to pry gently with a flat screwdriver on the outer edge. The inside edge has a longer tab, don’t pry here or you will likely break it.

Once that is done, the green/white (hot) and black (ground) leads inside the mirror must be coaxed enough to get the splicing piece (purple) connected. This requires a bit of patience and a firm crimp (the purple splicing piece folds over the wire and has 2 points of contact inside). The connectors shown are Radio Shack p/n 6400037 (18-22 gauge) and work perfectly. Do not use connectors for a larger gauge, because the splicing piece will probably not make contact. The RS parts come in a 3-pack, so you need two.
The red (male) piece must be attached to the Recon leads AFTER the leads are fished through the puddle opening. They will not fit through the opening on the front of the mirror housing. This means separating the nylon insulator from the male tab inside it (using a needlenose and regular pliers); running the insulators onto the Recon leads (black/white is +); soldering the leads onto the male tab; then rejoining the insulator and male tab. At that point, the purple is ready for the red. And they snap together when properly seated.
There is sufficient wire on the Recons to set up a small soldering bench near the mirrors. The excess wire should be bundled with a nylon tie before being stuffed into the puddle opening. Check the connection by turning on the flasher; if good, mount the Recon (inside tabs first), and snap the puddle light back in place. The factory reflectors (as the Recons) are NOT the same on both sides. Driver side has two inboard tabs; passenger side has one.
The picture below shows two leads each on the red (male) connectors. This was taken from a factory reflector mod in which two strips of LEDs were used inside the hollowed-out reflector. You will have one each.
Is it a big job? Sort of, but the results are great. I was not interested in trying to take power-folding/heated mirrors apart. The Recon smoked 3rd taillight followed on the two I've done and is considerably easier than the mirrors. You'd be surprised at the cheap gasket from the factory. No wonder there are reports of leakage. The Recon 3rd is a great unit, too.

Thanks DewserB. If my memory serves me correctly, I did a photoshop on your truck at your request a year or two ago. Your truck looks fantastic by the way, really liking the look.

Looks great! I just got a 2013 Race Red Screw, with the chrome package, and I'm slowly wanting to bring the accessories darker, while still maintaining a clean look. Are those heads and tails the same as these?
