Max Tow vs. Tow on F150 FX4 super crew 145, 6.2l, 3.73 rear
I can't get a straight answer on difference between the max tow and regular tow in terms of towing and payload on a FX4 super crew 145 with 3.73 and 6.2l. I have searched forums, read what is on Ford's site (not consistent) and talked to dealer.
Dealer says, after looking into it, that Max Tow does not increase payload or tow capacity on the above. It includes "bigger bumper," which I believe from research is extra brackets on the hitch, bigger radiator, and the mirrors.
Ford's trailer towing selector gives 11,100 as maximum loaded trailer weight for non-limited f150 4x4s with 145 super crew. There is no footnote requiring max tow. But another page on Ford site says Max tow is required to get the 11,100.
Does anyone know for sure if the truck without the max tow is rated at 11,100? Thx.

Yes the max tow does raise the GVWR of the truck to I believe 7700lbs (HD GVWR is 8200). Even rated to tow 11,100, it will not be able to tow that amount. That is the max if conditions are "ideal". Meaning no cargo in the bed and only one person in the vehicle. You will run out of GVWR long before you reach 11,100lbs towing. If you want to tow that much, get a superduty.

No it does not. It will have a GVWR of 7200, 7350, or 7500, depending upon model. There are also others, as low as 6450lbs. The max tow has a GVWR of 7700lbs and is only available with the 3.5 EB or 6.2 engines.

Look at the link--7700 no max tow. Another one has Max Tow Package but still has 7700.

One thing to remember is that you cannot tow more if you do not have the GVWR to handle the higher tongue weight.

I generally refer to the Ford Tow Guide for questions like these
http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/g...rv&tt_f150.pdf
In the tables, the requirement for Max Tow is listed as the number in parenthesis. Max Tow clearly increases the Max Trailer Weight ratings.
The tow guide doesn't discuss payload ratings (probably due to the number of options and variants) but there is another site where it lists standard payload
http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/specifications/payload/
Here you can also see that max tow increases payload.

The 6.2L with a 3.73 rear end can tow up to 11,100 pounds
There are no numbers cited, so neither max tow nor heavy-duty payload are required.
On page 2 of the tow guide it is 3 lines up from the bottom of the chart and the second column from the right.

You miss the point. I m not tying to load it up to the last ounce and max it out. I am trying (was really) to determine what extra capacity, IF ANY, the max tow gives. Why? All things equal I figured it would be easier to do the work, any work regardless of weight, if it was a more stout package. I don't want or need a big *** f250. It's moot now. I bought an fx4 with 6.2 and 3.73 gears, no max tow.
