Help with 12 platinum wheels and tires

Just bought a F 150 platinum 4x4 in black and looking to put wheels and tires on it but have no idea where to start. I just installed a ready lift on it. I think I want 20" rims and possibly a 34 or 35 tire?

I like fuel's hostage rims in black, but have no idea what all the sizes mean and not sure what tire to look at. Any suggestions?

I'm not trying to go crazy overboard as this is still an everyday truck that I put 50-100 miles on a day. But it needs something to spruce the outside up for sure.

Thanks!!

Hi & welcome!

^^^ Dint it already come wif wheels an' tahrs ???

Not much to go on here - what look yalls after - mudder, street queen, meatwagon, gheywagon?

For some info on sizes, definitions and other lingo try looking at the Tirerack's tutorial section on de web. Most major tire cump'nies also have lotsa additional referential material on their site so worth a peek-see.

Also - you be cross-postin' already ( more'n one post same topic, differnt forums - be bad jujuj), but you may git sum gooder hep in our Wheels & Tahrs forum - jes sayin'. I won't tell nobody so no worries.

Be advised that a bump to 35's, dependin' on yer gearin' mayhap turn yer truck into a dawg. Whut be yer rearend gear ratio?

And yer speedo, and shiftin' be pekkered too unless yalls sprang fer one o' them fayncy tooners an' sich to correct fer tahr circum'frence, ans some added pawr ta hep wif the extry weight, rollin' resistance of bigger meats and boo-boo aeros dat lift be tossin' yer way.

Good luck - I'm sure yer new ride looke plenty Sprucey already wifout anythang changin', so yall gots plenty o' time to do the bonein' up on yer edumacation!

Research be key to avoidin' a suboptimal running gear combo sir.

Good luck!

Hear tell our res-E-dent OmBUDSman be a gooder fellr ta hep ya wif this - the one an' only, our very own belov'd KMACnugget hissef!

Welcome!

As MGDfan said there are many options. The Platinum came with 20x8.5 wheels with a +44mm offset. As you go from positive to negative offset the more you will push outward the wheels and tires. I would look at some of the other threads like show your level kit thread.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...how-looks.html

It is all personal.

Here are the Platinum wheels with 2 Ready Level and 275/65/20.

Custom wheels 20x9.5 with +35mm offset.

it looks like those wheels are available in 20x9 +1, +14, +20, and -12 along with 20x10 -12.

Obviously the 10 inch is one inch wider than the 9 inch

when it comes to offset just think of negative offsets as lots of dish and positive as less dish. its actually where the wheel bolts up, whether its towards the outer edge of the wheel or the inner edge, which can be hard to picture. stock wheels have high offsets so they are not sticking out of the fenders. aftermarket wheels with low offsets (like the -12 ones) will stick out of the fenders and may rub a little. sticking out looks better in my opinion, but it will throw crap down the side of your truck.

tire size in metric are pretty easy. the first number, say 275 or 305 is just the wdth in mm. the second number is the sidewall ratio, so larger numbers here mean a taller tire.

if you go with a 275 or similar tire the 20x9 will work best. the +14 or +20 will both be inside the fender. the +1 may just stick out of the fender. if you want the pushed out look, go with the 20x10 -12. thats what I have and they stick out about 2 inches. these will require a 295, 305, or a 12.5 inch wide tire.

as for what type of tire, mud terrains look great but will lower mpgs, be louder, and ride a little stiffer due to being load range E which is more ply. all terrains come in p series which is less ply, or load range E. These will help a little with noise and mpgs.

hope that helps a little! look through this thread to get an idea of what things look like

thanks for the input. i'm thinking i wouldn't want the tires sticking out more than 2 inches, but sticking out a little. if i went with the 20x9 versus the 20x10, would that reduce the rubbing potential? sorry for all of the questions, i just never knew there were so many damn options and sizes i had to know.

9" wide wheel will be less likely to rub over a 10" wide one, but it still depends on the offset and tire size you choose.

20x9 +14 will be just about flush with the fender if you go with a 275 tire. any wider tire and it will stick out a fraction. if you go with the 20x9 +1 i think you will get the look you are trying to achieve

Thanks, I was thinking 295 or 305....trying to get 35" tires. Would that 20x9 +1 still be a good match? Is that what you mean by wider? Thanks again for the help!

Yea a +1 will push you out to be about where you want. But with just a level kit a 35" tire and the wide stance might cause some rubbing issues.

Rogue - Really digging that white on white look . So many white trucks around here with the same black wheels. Very unique.

20x9 will be just fine with a 295 or 305, and the +1 sounds like a great offset

as far as the 35s, are you installing a leveling kit? because 35s will likely rub, but hopefully not too bad depending on the tire, and a little trimming on the lower bumper valence can help out.

one more ting on the 35s, you will feel a little power loss, especially depending on your gear ratio, although the 6 speed will help a little

I literally haven't laughed this hard in SO long, I'm crying!!! Whew, okay . . . MGD started calling me it and the "redneck defynision" is in his signature

But anyways, I think a 295/60/20 (33.93" x 11.6") is just about the perfect size for a leveled 4x4 and I doubt you'd have any issues rubbing with the +1 offset. People throw "35s" around for a lot of tire sizes, when most aren't a true 35" tire. ~34"+ is pretty much a "35"

These are what 295/60/20s with a 2" level look like, albeit on stock wheels:

I think they fill the wheel wells perfectly
