2013 5.0 FX4 cold start issue
Not sure if this is an issue, according to service dept it is acting as it should, but the issue I am having is the high idle for cold starts. This is the 6th F150 I've had in the last 10 or so years, and every one of them revved higher RPM's for the first 30ish seconds to warm the engine. However, my newest one is taking 2-4 minutes minimum before the RPM's drop down. So I basically end up not waiting for the RPM's to drop before I take off.
My question is, does anyone know why the difference? The other 5 all dropped RPM's after 30 seconds or so, so why does this one take so long?
My thoughts are perhaps a bad sensor, but service dept seems to think if we aren't seeing any service lights then it is operating as expected.
Thanks in advance for any info.

My Ecoboost holds higher RPM's for quite a while too (higher RPM's being about 1000-1100rpms). I'll time it next time to see exactly how long before it kicks down to the 500-600rpm warm idle, but I bet it is 2-4 minutes.
Emission requirements on the engines are driving a lot of design and practice changes, the faster an engine warms up the faster it stops blowing emissions out the tailpipe. My bet is that it is software driven to warm up the engines as quickly as possible.

I dont have a 5.0 but my f150 will drop idle after about 35-40 seconds. I will time it here in a lil bit just to make sure since it hasnt been started yet for the day
Edit: Just started mine up and made a video of it so i could time it. It dropped idle at 31 seconds.

WEll my truck is garage kept, and it didn't matter if it was 60 degrees or 0, it still idles for 2-4 minutes before dropping. Which is why I wonder if there is a bad sensor. Thanks for the replies, appreciate it. The 30-45 seconds is more what I'm used to and what my wife's 2013 Exped. does.
It's really not a big deal I guess, I just always liked to let the rpm's drop before taking off, but I suppose 30 seconds of idle warms the engine the same amount whether the idle drops or not.

I've noticed my 13 5.0 idles around a grand for about 4 minutes too (cold first starts). I asked my buddy and his 12 5.0 seems to idle high for a couple minutes too. I usually don't leave mine idle down before I take off but do leave it idle for a minute or two then baby it until it reaches operating temperature.
