My 2013 Ecoboost 'adventure'
Long time lurker, can't really take it anymore and need to share. Some of the other forums I am on really push dodge so I don't get any sympathy over there.....
This truck is the biggest POS. Just dropped it off at the dealer again. Seems fitting that I literally picked it up today 2 years ago. I think I can account for at least 10 individual trips to the dealer not including maintenance. Disappointing. I use my truck for 2 things, driving as a commuter and towing my 4800# trailer. I think I've taken it 'off a road' (and I don't mean offroading) just literally off a gravel road once when I first got it. Been a pavement or gravel princess ever since. I've babied it since day 1 as well, not hard driving when cold, plug it in, full synthetic oil changes every 5000km.
Most recent that has pissed me off:
I do still have the low battery issue where Sync turns itself off even before I can get out of the truck when I park it. Not sure if it is weather related or what. Ran out of space on the paperwork to explain this one. I'll mention it when they call me in the AM.
So in the span of 8 months I've had the truck out of my possession for 20% of the time, it has had the engine removed, as well as the same part repaired twice (depending on what they find tomorrow).
So I've had a 1993 Ford Escort, 2007 F150, 2013 F150, 2003 Mustang Cobra and a 2012 Ford Focus. At my brother in laws farm we have a 2007 F250, had a 2002 F150, have a 2011 f150, 2007 Ford Fusion, and a 2008 Ford Mustang. My mother in law has a 2009 Ford Escape. My mom has a 1982 F250 and my Dad has a 2000 E250. Just saying that I was a fan is an understatement. I've only owned Toyota and Ford in my entire life. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I can see how someone grows to hate a brand.
Edit....
Apparently there is a TSB about the body control module about Sync going into battery save mode if the key is on accessory.

Most recent that has pissed me off:
March 11th 2015 - Coolant found to be low. Took in to inspect for leaks. Couldn't find anything so they topped up and asked me to monitor.
March 30th 2015 - Taken in for Axle Whine/howl/grown. Confirmed two blown IWE's and replaced under warranty. At the same time found coolant blowing out of the bottle relating to my visit on March 11th. Verified and had the entire engine ripped out down to the block thinking it was the heads, no issue found, rebuild and given my truck back. They had an engineer from Ford come up and look at it and it took them 7 weeks. Ford Canada gave me an extended warranty and a $400 credit after A LOT of fighting. No loaner vehicle. The Ford dealer gave me a used truck off their lot that had a destroyed windshield and smelled like smoke. But at least I had something.
June 3 2015 - Get the truck back.
-Summer Vacation - Took the truck on a 1200km round trip with my 4800# trailer from Calgary to just north of Swift Current Sask. Managed average 30L/100km (8MPG for those who care) going 105 with cruise on. I got a low battery light after sitting in the +28 for 3 days. Never bothered to get that looked at.
September 8th 2015 - Taken in for an oil change as well as the exhaust rubbing on the mount making noise since engine swap. Took the truck camping for all of August so wasn't around. Asked for it to be re-adjusted.
September 10th 2015 - Took truck back in as they didn't adjust the exhaust properly and it was still rubbing.
November 16th - 2015 - Front left is grinding again when turning right. Asked for the noise under remote start to be verified. It makes a really high pitch whistle noise then a loud clunk and it goes away.

That's such a bummer because I've had no issues with my 13 Eco... Well, the Sync system sucks.. But, that's just my opinion, and it does work for what I need it to do..
I know if I had as many issues as you've had with your truck, I'd be pissed too..
I went to the dealer one time to get my one free oil change and they overfilled it and probably put in 5w20.. No proof of that of course, but I sucked out a qt of oil and changed it about a month later..
I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do.. Lots of other trucks out there and lots of other satisfied customers for every make and model...

Not loosing anymore coolant as far as I can tell. I am really worried about owning this thing out of warranty though.

"Thats what you get for buying a ford"
"Found on road dead"
"Buy a dodge"
"Buy a gm"
"Buy a Yota"
I have a Ford Canada case going again, at least get it documented the issues I am having.

It seems like your problems are mostly due to the dealership not doing the engine swap right the first time. That itself puzzles me, why would they pull the motor to check for a coolant leak? There's a ton of room under the hood on these trucks to find the leak and take appropriate steps.

As for the leak, they thought it was heads as under a leak down test the coolant was disappearing but upon inspection couldn't figure out where. I've always held the opinion that it was leaking into the turbos and that is why I am getting the noise now.

Did they run a compression check? If the coolant was getting into the turbos it would have to come through the exhaust manifolds. A blown head gasket or cracks in the water jacket work do this but would both fail a compression test. I don't think it would hurt the turbo since it would be steam at that point which should not hurt the compressor blades.

In my personal opinion (based on pretty decent experience with each brand), Ford, GM & Ram all have some annoying issues to deal with. I think Toyota has the best overall quality by a long shot but not the capability of the F150. My 2 year old F150 does stuff that my 11 year old Lexus GX would never think about doing...but I still love it.

Disagree there, both the shop foreman and I pushed for a swap. He didn't want to have a guy spend a week to rebuild my engine either and said he would rather swap it and know it was fixed right. Ford Canada said no, unless you can prove it needs it, rebuild it. That is part of the reason they even sent the engineer up. The foreman pushed back so hard.

Were you provided with a case number? And is it only a documentation case? I may be able to do more. Please send me your VIN, odometer reading, full name, phone number, and servicing dealer info, I'll see what resources area available to help!
Thanks,
Mathieu

FYI my dealer is on my side as well and also asked for my case number, so here is to hoping.

Hate to hear that, cosworth. Best of luck in whatever you're in now. It sounds like this past experience was less than great.
As is true with anything that is mass produced, a lemon can occur. Disappointing but, the unfortunate truth....

For now I am driving my 18 year old cousin's 2004 Cavalier while she is in Australia while I figure out what to do. Haha
