Sunroof

The sunroof on my 2010 Lariat got me this week. Last Friday I went to open it to let some heat out of the truck and CRACK! CRACK! It came off the track. I couldn't get it shut after that.

No big deal since I've still got 1,200 miles left on my 100k extended warranty. Great timing, my luck never works like that. I've always found myself having the problems right AFTER the warranty expires, not right before.

They kept my truck for several days and then called me. They said that while I still have less than 100k on the truck, the warranty expired 3 months ago! $2,000 to fix the sunroof.

I was shocked not only by the timing, but the cost.

I called around this morning and found a local shop that does it for $750. Says he does them so often that he thinks Ford should have done a recall on them.

I hardly use the sunroof. I might use it 20 time a year. Go figure.

I went through the same thing with my 2012, There is a kit you can order to repair it yourself and its pretty easy fix for less than a few hundred, I've not done mine yet since I was able to close mine, its on my to do list this winter.

My 2017 did the same thing. It was covered under warranty. The service tech told me they keep at least 5 sunroof tracks in stock at the dealership because of this issue. The other thing he told me was the tracks are PLASTIC and are prone to break. He told me he'd heard rumor there was a company making the track in steel rather than plastic, but he hasn't seen them. He knew nothing else about it.
Anybody on here have any info on this rumor?

Thanks for the tip! just saw the same company in eBay at $84.99 free shipping. I'll place my order right now!
