2011 F150 Transmission Replacement at 65K miles??
My 2001 F150 4x4 transmission started slipping, and it was discovered that there was a rusted out transmission fluid line. This line was replaced, and the mech thought it would take 4-5 quarts of fluid, but it barley took 2. We had a couple of days of touch-and-go, and then it worked fine for about 6 weeks. Now the same problem has showed up again:
The truck will drive, but when traffic causes it to go to 1st gear it sometimes will not shift out. I can go to manual and it will shift (most times), but sometimes it just refuses to go out of 1st gear. When that happened, I'd pull over and turn the truck off and rest for a minute or two.
This transmission design does not have a dipstick, and you cannot inspect the trans fluid unless you drop the pan (which our mechanic says often causes more problems than not).
This truck has 64,000 miles, and the bluebook says it's worth about $10K.
Is this even worth replacing the transmission if it's going to cost $5k-7k?
Thanks in advance for any advice on this.
