Increased Torque with my Flowmaster Delta 50

I replaced my stock muffler with a SISO Flowmaster Delta 50 Series muffler. To my surprise, I ended up with increased torque. I noticed while taking off under my normal acceleration the tires now chirp or try to spin. It never did this with my stock muffler. My mileage has also increased about 1-2 mpg.

It may be because I'm running a SISO Delta 50 and not dual 40's? Whatever the reason, I can feel the improvement over stock.

I actually was running the same setup for a couple months. SISO 50 series that I just replaced the original muffler with. I didn't notice any power loss with it over stock. Just not loud enough for my taste...I had to really hammer on the gas pedal to hear that thing. Got it from a friend for free though....still have it, so no big loss. I am still trying to remember if there was a difference in power between that and the 40 series SIDO I have now.

It's time, once again, for the Classic Silly Little Baffle Lesson

Now exactly which muffler you use will depend on what kind of sound characteristics you want, so that's why you need to call, so we can go over all of that with you. It's not just length alone, for example.

What that Flowmaster setup is doing is actually *reducing* torque on part throttle at any rpm, and reducing torque below about 3000 rpm a at any throttle position - and that is due to all those silly baffles & chambers they use as part of their "sound engineering" - all they are is impediments to airflow, and slow down exhaust gas velocity, which is why you don't see much in the way of HP gains form them, and actually lose torque, especially in the lower rpm ranges. When it comes to torque, exhaust gas *velocity* is absolutely key.
No, we will not need to change what we do in the tuning if you change to a different cat-back exhaust system or just do a muffler change like that - that will be fine.

So true MGD . I remember swapping my Flowbastid 50 series with a Magnaflow 4X22. I missed all the torque that disappeared for so long.
It was kinda of a b^tch getting use to that Maggy in the rain. If the radio's turned up , you'll spin the tires real easy- won't know it until that Maggy come alive with that awesome sound

The looks you get when you do that are priceless

This will be arriving this week - it should imhance the sound a bit, but it won't be any easier keeping her calmed down at the light I imagine -

Maybe a little tweak, but I recall that, with Dynatechs at least, no adjustments were necessary.

What ,like a sound clip? I have the maggy hi- flows as well - just put them back in the box , mann those things are shiny, my dog was lookin at himself in the reflection - I think that's first time he seen what he looks like.

The High flows are 2.5 in and out just like the 4X22 " MAG Muffler SISO cat back.

I'm prolly just going to dump it behind the axle.

Dynatechs were out of my price range a bit - these should fair well tho. I don't need a welder or muffler shop with this set up..The muffler shop wanted $400 to make me a piece from the manifold to the cats on both sides and weld the seams up.. I told them -forgit it!! and bought that kit instead..
My daughter makes those little digital movies with our still camera - I never figured out how she did that, I can get a sound clip and upload to utube or somewhere I guess - have her do it..
