DO NOT PUT Bosch plugs in the 4.2..EVER...
The 4.2 is a very picky motor when it comes to plugs. I tried a set of Bosch..truck ran so rough I thought it was gonna shake apart. Put the old plugs back in and it ran smooth. I then put in Autolight Dbl Plats and it ran fine for 3 yrs. Just recently put in a set of motorcraft plugs and no issues.
Now there are some rare cases where the Bosch plugs worked but I can show you multiple threads on a v6 forum where my advice is backed up by tons of posts.
Best to stick to the following..Motorcraft, Autolite, Denso Iridium..there is one other but I can't remember the name but it sure ain't Bosch.

Yes.
Because when they heat up and melt, they fall apart in the cylinders and screw up the valves (among other things).
So you will achieve much better mileage, - because the damn thing won't run anymore.

I started using Iridium's for the first time two and half years ago in my 98 5.4L. I updated the coils and forward O2 sensors at the same time. Fuel mileage has been consistent @ 16 city/ 16 highway. Yea, I get the same highway/ cruise set to 78 mph @ 2200 rpm. I'm not complaining, -I'll take it.
IMO, for the two valves, - the iridium will keep them at peak performance the longest.
More 2V Info~
Also, - The Autolite 103/104's are the wrong heat range and don't meet Ford spec. Honeywell has had both contracts for along time (Autolite, Motorcraft). Motorcaft plugs are spec'ed by Ford, -Autolites are not AND for the two valves, they are different. Not sure what happened there, but they over heat as well. Now they don't fall apart like the Bosch, but they can get hot enough to misfire/foul.
Two valve plugs, stick with these:

today i bought the bosch 2 prong plats and put them in. btw, i found autolites in my truck when it was supposedly sposed to come with motorcrafts? anyway, i noticed a smoother startup, better and smoother acceleration, and when i gas it the truck responds quiker. i like them way better than the old ones. i bought the truck new and ever since i bought it, it always had weird startups and would take a second or so to respond when pressing the gas

E3 plugs in 4.6
Quick ? I have a 2003 4.6 w/ 112,000k miles. Have a few upgrades, consisting of: Spectre Cold Air Intake, Poweraid Throttle Body spacer, Hypertech 160 degree thermostat, and strait exhaust. I recently installed the E3 plugs, seems like its running better, and getting a lil better gas mileage. But ive seen some forums about the 4.6s being picky about plugs. Ive had good luck w/ them, just wondering if anybody hasnt or if anybodys heard bad things. Thanks

put down the keys
back slowly away from the vehicle, (you've done enough and you don't need to make it worse by scaring the poor thing)
once you are at least 200 yards back you need to turn and run as fast as you can to a bicycle store...
