5.4 vs 5.0 Torque/Hp Curve Overlay
I did a quick overlay of the Torque/Hp Curve from a 2009 5.4 Dyno chart and the recent review here http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2011/02...liter-v-8.html.
That 5.0 looks pretty good don't ya think?

thats pretty neat how you did that overlay. I dont think you can go off of that thought, they used 2 totally different dynos and who knows what the weather was. I will admit according to you dyno chart the 5.0 looks like it can hang with the 5.4 down low which is pretty good. We already knew the 5.0 would destroy it in the upper RPMs

I'll give you that it may not be exact but I can't imagine it's too far off. It would be just as close as people comparing numbers from different manufacturers or vehicles. And does give you a great idea of the curve.
I would love someone to run the 2 trucks on one dyno and post but for now I'll believe in these. of course my 5.0 is on the way to replace my 5.4

It may be a different dyno on a different day but the stock 5.4 has a ton of ground to make up in the low end and it's obviously game over above 4k. It looks like the 5.0 has about 40-50 lbs. ft. over the stock tune 5.4 from where the graph starts and only the tuned 5.4 can hang with the 5.0 in those lower rpms.

I don't believe those charts one bit. they were made by someone trying to profit off of the product to make these charts look better. i seen these charts long ago and found them erroneous.
anyone driving a 2010 5.4 and a 5.0 will noticed the huge improvement in the low rpms with the 5.4 over the 5.0. the 5.0 felt anemic compared to the 5.4..
when driving the 5.0, I had to give it half pedal just so out would pick up power. even them, it did it much more slowly than the instant power of the 5.4. the 5.4 had so much more power in the range you need it, that I have to back off off the pedal because it makes power so easily and fast compared to the 5.0.
the 5.0 has 50 more house but is slower to make it from at rest our a constant speed. the 5.0 has to build up to it while keeping your foot into it while the 5.4 duress it instant.that is why the 5.4 is better at towing.

Here's Ford's - looks different - to ME. A LOT more 'peaky'.

If I'm not mistaken the charts were published by K&N? They are an aftermarket performance company that profits by showing attractive dyno curves and demonstrating (potentially inflating) how much power their products can make.

Yes, but look at the distance between the peak.
You have 20 lb-ft difference between the 5.0 and EB.
After you have only 14 lb-ft difference between the EB and the 6.2.
But the gap between the EB and 6.2 is alot bigger then the gap between the 5.0 and EB.
So that graph is BS.

The 6.2 repond really good to tuning. Look at 5star tuning they gain over 30hp and 55lb-ft on the F250. Same gain on the 6.2 Raptor.
So the 5.0 should have good gain too.
