What is the best camper shell for Ford trucks?

What's is the best brand for a camper shell (truck cap, topper..) for a Ford Truck? Basically, in your opinion, what do you guys think the best all around shell is for a Ford truck? My brother in law has an F250 that he wants to put one on. I have a Raider on my f250, but it was on the truck when I bought it, so that's all I have experience with. I figured you guys could give me a good idea. Thanks ahead of time.

I have been researching caps to put on my 2004 f-150. The two high end brands are leer and A.R.E. You should definately check both of those out.

A couple of other brands that people seem to like are Jason and Century.

I am torn between a Leer 100xq
and the A.R.E. z series

Wow, sorry but Ive got to disagree BIG time on the Leer caps. I have one that just over a year old which I paid $1270 for, and I cant stand it, well I like it, but think its a majorily over priced piece of junk. It funny i see this thread because I was just going to post on saying how much i cant stand it. While the waranty has been good up to now I've been to the dam dealer about 3 times now for a couple of hours, each time on my days off. The first was time was the day I picked it up one of the locks was deffective, so I had to comeback to have it replaced. Then one of the windoors leaked so back again to have it replaced with a new door, whcih has a chipped lock, which I say nothing about. And now another one of the locks is damaged, and needs to be replaced, but its 1 year, and 2 weeks old, so now I'll have to pay for it this time? BS

Since I've had it I regulary see screws coming out of the windows. The light the have the nerve to put in these things is an absoulte joke, the best thing I did was to crunch it under my boot, and have a new light hard wired in. And I cant stand the little advertisment lables on the side of the cap, thier recessed so as they peel off more and more, they look more, and more like crap.

I just wish I went with a Fedco cap, which would have been $400 cheaper, and build just as good if not better.

Oh yeh one other thing about Leer caps that is absolutley retarded is, if you have windoors on your cap you have two keys, one for them, and one for the rear door. Sorry but that is just ridiculous.

If you're looking for a cab-hi try the Fibrobec Prospector. If/When I ever get a cap, that's the one I'm going with. Their website is kind lame, but the cap has lots of useful features that I didn't see in any Leer, Century, Jeraco, or ARE.

I've had both Leer and ARE. I'd have to say ARE is the way to go!I currently have a Leer 100XQ on my SCrew. I got an insane deal on it because it was a floor model, but if I had to it over I'd pony up the extra bucks and get another ARE. My last truck (98 SCab) had the ARE Z series, and it was so much nicer. It had a better fit and and finish IMO. Bottom line, this is something that will be with the truck for as long as you own it. Don't go on the cheap like I did.

Leer Caps suck

I'm about to do something I NEVER do, and write the company to tell them how much I think their caps suck, and are over priced. Yet anohter friggen lock is dying on my 13 1-2 month old cap!
So far:
1 lock defective upon delivery
1 Windoor replaced
1 more lock replaced
now need 1 more lock ordered
Dam out of 6 friggen locks 3 need to be replaced in the first year?
What A piece of crap, if i can save one person fom wasting thier money on these over priced cheapley made pieces of garbage I will be happy.

I liked the ARE Z Series I had on my 2005 F150 King Ranch Supercrew. The topper is for sale now, BTW, as I have sold the truck.
