Here's what the slim vs standard look like mounted up.

Mount them on the bumper?
Damn, I might have to go with the Slim's over the others. There isn't much room between the radiator and the light housing...at least with the Slims if I hit something there's a little room to give before they puncture the radiator...

130w Slim Lites it is...

akcowboy,
thanks for the response. what I meant was will the lights still work good if they're mounted behind the grill AND grill guard? I'd rather keep them out of sight if possible, but I don't want the grill guard to block a lot of light.

Gotcha. I know that the light output is about 95/100 from behind the grill with the honeycomb, about 75/100 with an H-Bar, but can't say how much the grill guard blocks.

Thanks again. I'll probably just go ahead and see how it works. But if anyone has already done this I'd like to know how it worked out. Maybe I can post a photo to get some ideas from someone.

Well my KC 130w SlimLites arrived today...

I am not mechanically inclined and wiring these up looks like it's going to be a royal pain in my butt.

1. I want these on a separate switch (provided) and not wired directly into my high/low beams...Where should I mount the on/off switch?

2. What's the best way through the firewall to get the wires into my cabin?

3. What connections are required to hook these up to my battery? And what color wire goes to which battery terminal (+/-)?

I'm going out now to mount the lights...and try to figure out the wiring...

EDIT: Glad I went with the Slim Lites...by using the angle iron approach, it didn't leave much room for mounting...but I got them mounted at least..time to tackle the wiring. Still need suggestions.

EDIT #2: Thank God for mechanically inclined friends. After seeing how all the wiring gets routed/connected...it all makes perfect sense now.

This is where we went through the firewall...

Adjustments needed:

Pics aren't working for me...

Wiring is pretty straight forward. Black is always ground, and red is almost always (+). There is a grommet in the firewall directly behind the coolant resivior on the drivers side, just unbolt it to reach the firewall.

Here's a diagram I threw together on how to wire your lights to your high beams and to a seperate switch in the cab.

I understand "HOW" to align the lights - turned on and pointed at wall...

But at what height on the wall should I point these?

I would aim them at the same point your headlights hit with the high beams. The best way is to go out late at night on an empty back road and aim them.

Here is mine i did that today, tomorrow I will actually stable them more and wire them.

I Bought a pair of Lights from Walmart for $20
Got Paint for like $7 from Lowes
Found that metal bar for $12 in Lowes
Some bolts and Screws from Lowes for another $6
Some Wires from walmart for $12
Switch came with the lights.
I will run that switch to my cab tomorrow..

Let us know how those work. I wouldn't buy anything less than 100w after trying 100w and 55w. Those little 35s are about as bright as my turn signals lol

hate to bump up such an old thread, but has anyone ever done this with an H-bar grille? I'd love to do this to my fx4 SCREW but I don't want to get rid of the H-bar grille

Find some oval lights. I originally had an Fx4 H grille and it blocked about 40% of the light.
