Detail Question

Yesterday I scrubbed and washed my truck, there's not a speck of dirt on it. Then I p[arked it in the garage, and began claying it using the Mothers kit. (I'm almost done the clay) been doing it in sections, and taking breaks, heh.

Since my next step is LG, I got to thinking...

If my paint is clean and clayed, do I really need to bother with the LG pre-cleaner?
The panels already look like a mirror shine, and they feel oh so buttery smooth, so I'm going to skip the pre-cleaner step, and just apply LG coats one after the other (Yes, I will let them cure)

Do you guys see any harm in missing the "pre-cleaner" step?

Anyways, when I'm done at weeks end, I'll post some pics.

Lemmee know what you guys think.

I certainly don't see a problem with it but, I see absolutely no benefit either unless you have a slight amount of oxidation.

As clay is abrasive, and can leave some very fine scratches, I always recommend at least using a light polish to remove those scratches before waxing.

I agree that a polish would be a good idea but, if the LQ cleaner is chemically agressive versus abrasive... it's generally useless then isn't it?

I agree. A cleaner with little or no abrasives won't help much. A light polish is a better choice.

I have almost the entire truck clayed, and half of it has the firt coat of LG on it.
(I do it like this cuz im impatient, haha)

From my past experience, I didnt see anything different this time by not using the pre-cleaner.
I was going to do it, but thought "hey, that's a big waste of time extra step", and I would rather use that extra step for an additional coat of LG.

This is my "Once a year go crazy" detail job, so I'm going crazy.
I'll drive the PSD until i'm done all my coats.

Did I mention the paint feels "oh so buttery soft and smoooooth now? Mmmmm, buttery smooth! I love that feeling when you rub it gently with your finger, and it's so "buttery smoooth" HAHA

Ok, my smoke break is over, back to the garage I go.

Ciao babies!

Habibi,

Just so you know, even the LG glaze has a bit of cleaning ability built in.

Pfft. Whatever.

You *might* have more durability than I do with your Z but, I guarantee you that your paint isn't any smoother than mine. Meguiars all the way.

Well, I was rubbing something.... I can't guarantee you that it was your truck though.
