Window tinting

I started a post on this a couple months ago. I ended up putting 15% on the front of my 02 Screw and from the outside it looks like a perfect match. However, from the inside you can tell it is darker than the back. We pretty much determined that 20% is what comes on the back from the factory. If you want it to match as close a possible, go with that.

Yep, 20% is what you are looking for. From the inside you will still notice a slight difference since the factory tint is actually in the glass versus a layer of tint on the glass. On mine it looks like the factory tint has a bit more copper look from the inside, but the outside is a perfect match.

The guys are right or extremely close on the rear window tint. Just keep in mind that if you take the truck to a tint shop make sure they use a metallic film instead of the dye type. The dye kind will fade to a purple hue after about 1-2 years and look like dung. Solarguard I know is one of the companies offering the metallic film. Don't buy the cheap kind available at the Wal-mart or Autozone because they fade terribly. If you are going to do it yourself by the film from a professional tint shop, you will be happier in the long run. If the shop is really good they will match the tint for you and sell you exactly what you need. Just check local laws so you don't go to dark.

I had 20% put on my front windows, and it matches perfectly. I must say, it took me a little while to get used to the front windows bieng slightly darker appearing than the back (from the inside) I agree, use quality tint such as Llumar or 3M. And don't use Windex or any solvents on the film for cleaning. These will attack and break down the adhesive over time. I just use water and a clean rag.

Hey guys. I need some help. I had my windows tinted professionally and they did a really good job. I had them tint 35% all the way around. Well my front windows are barely tinted. I had an "87 bronco before and it had 20% on it and I loved it. Now I'm stuck with this 35% and I wanna go lower. Could I put more tint over the existing tint or should I scrape off the existing tint and go with 20%? I figured that if I could tint over what I have, I would tint it 35% and it should come out pretty good. So I guess my main question is could I tint over my aftermarket tint? Thanks for the help.

Hey hennjj, You CAN use Windex on your tinted windows. Just don’t use the blue stuff with ammonia. They make one with vinegar D. This one is safe to use! I have a good friend that has been tinting windows for 20+ years, just as everyone else said make sure who ever does it uses a high quality tint like Lumar or 3m.

Hammer,
I had a camaro and it had two layers of tint. I dont think its a problem because I have limo tint and I see cars that have darker than what I have and the only way I know to go darker is to double it up. Im sure if you check with a local shop they could tell you for sure but I think you should be fine.
