Dreaded door crack

Dreaded door crack
Washed the truck last night and discovered the dreaded door crack on the drivers side. Today I went to my dealer and had a look at the couple of used F-150's they had and there was a 1997 with cracks on both doors. While I'm walking around, a salesman asks if I need any help. I replied that I was just looking to see if the used trucks had the similar door crack that mine has. I even pointed it out to him on the one he had on the lot. Not only was he unaware of any issues, he seemed really disinterested in the whole thing. My question is, how do I deal with the dealership on this issue? Can I expect that they will address it all as the original 3/60 warranty is gone. I have the extended warranty but I'm not sure whether it covers it or not. Any ideas on how to approach the dealership on this ???
Thanks
John
P.S. Its a 2000 F150 4.2 5-Speed.

I have a 99 that was fixed under warrenty - new door skin and repaint to correct it. Now I have a truck with 3 differnt colors of Dark Wedgewood Blue - the color did not fade evenly with the rest of the truck. I purchased another 99 last fall that had 55k on the clock - it had both doors with the crack. I called the dealership service dept while I was on the lot and told them I had a 99 that had 55k on it and both doors were cracked - their responce was $700 for each door, out of warrenty, tuff. I asked about factory service reps number and possibility of arbritration - service mgr said that it would be no problem if it was still within warrenty but I could try with the facory guy but he had not budged on it in the past.
I used the info the sevice manager gave to help drop the price on the truck on the lot. I got it for $1200 less than Edmunds average wholesale for that truck . I use this truck as a farm equipment mover, parts chaser, and workcrew transportation (actually the truck is driven by one of my workers). The windows are contantly being used and the cracks have not gotten larger.
Good luck on getting Ford to fix your door. If it is not very noticable with the color of your truck I would not get it fixed for the cost and the delayed after effects. Upon trade in or resale the crack is overlooked alomost every time.

I fixed it on my Lariat but still have the cracks on my other two F150s. It is not worth the aggravation of dealing with the dealer over this screw up in the engineering dept @ Ford.
To get the history on the door crack go to the F150online home page. Look to the right column and there is a hyperlink with all the details.

If I remember correctly it was fixed mid 01 year model. There were numerous band-aid fixes that provided a patch but did not address the thin metal and the flex that occurs when a window goes up and down. The only true fix was the re-engineered sheetmetal that has a built in brace to eliminte the flex.
Typically if you lodged a complaint while it was in warrenty and got a band-aid fix and it latter re-occured the dealers would fix again correctly (I seem to remember that a few members posted some dificulty getting Ford to pay 100%).
Bottom line: if you got the crack and are in warranty - your choice to get it fixed. If you are out of warrenty it is not worth the effort and inconvieniece of getting it fixed.
