Question Porter Cable Polisher Accessory Pads??

I'm about to buy a porter cable polisher (7424) and I know you need different pads for different parts of the waxing process. I ran across a good combo deal with machine and some new pads, but if I don't need all of them, it might be a little cheaper to buy a polisher off ebay and then buy the pads I need local. Can anyone out there give me an rough idea of the minimum amount and type of additional foam pads, polishing pads, etc that I need to start with?

Also, where do you buy replacement pads? Online? I haven't seen replacement parts for Porter Cable in my auto parts store. Thanks

Cary

pa2000xxxx,

Don't know if you are going to be able to find the pads you need locally. For the 7424, you'll need a 5" hook & loop backing plate, and the correct pads that come with a velcro backing.

A kit like this is a good start:

I would add a couple more of the yellow pads (polishing), and a couple more of the tan pads (finishing) when you get the chance.

Hope this helps.

pa2000xxxx,
When I bought my PC I bought it at the following site because it gave you a free 6" Hook and loop contour pad and 6" counterweight for free along with the orig 5" pad/counterweight/ foam pad with the 7424. It was also 10- 30.00 cheaper depending on which combo you look at at properautocare site. Either the 129.00 or 149.00 set up 7424.

I then bought my pad kit at:
http://www.properautocare.com/padkitwoveba.html
It came with enough pads to do what was needed.

Some people from this site hooked me up with a deal like this about a yr ago.

I got my pads from the same site (properautocare.com) but I like the 7.5" pads that cover up the edge of the 6" backing plate. They have the same concave design as the 6" pads. The concave design is much easier to work than the normal flat pads (just my opinion).
