Question Gum Removal From Paint?

Somehow gum got on my hood and dried. Now it won't come off. Anybody know how to remove it without messing up the paint/clearcoat?

I'd be glad to tell you, but seeing as how you've got that Auburn logo, I can't bring myself to do so...

Simple Green. If that doesn't work, try the citrus based bug and tar remover from the auto parts store.

an idea for you....

I read awhile back that Rain-X would work on pine tree sap.
It does! Just follow up with a dab of wax afterwards.
May work on gum too!

Any of the above will work but, after you've removed it, IMMEDIATELY re-wax the affected area.

Net Wurker's idea is, by far and away, the best illustration of how to do the job RIGHT the FIRST TIME.

Nah. A good saltwater treatment will be more appropriate. That should encourage premature oxidation which is excellent for the metal and surrounding paint.

I think you should try battery acid before grinding. Grinding should be a last resort, right after battery acid.

Its ruined. Just replace the hood, it's the only option.

Oh well, I don't own a grinder so I was forced to use WD-40 and it got it off. Thanks!
