How can I remove this?

Has anyone had the unfortunate task of removing what appears to be adhesive used to attach pavement markers? If so, how? I assume this is what it is, because I vaguely remember driving next to a street paving operation last week. Just trying to get some ideas, but I will post pictures once I get home this evening from work. Thanks.

Going to have to try some sort of Solvent.

Stoner's Xenit or Pro's PRO-sol is what I would try. email prowax.com and see if they have a local distributor.

Otherwise I'd have to say see if pepboys has 3M's tar and adhesive remover. It's solvent based so it might work with some dwell time. Otherwise you're looking at trying Mineral Spirits.

If no solvent works, then you'll have to try to get it off with clay or a plastic razor blade, but they're kind of hard to find. If you have a local PRO distributor, then they'll probably have plastic razor blades. Clay you can get at places like pepboys but I'm not sure if it'll be agressive enough to get that stuff off.

How long has it been on there?

Thanks for the tips. It's be on there for a couple of weeks. I've tried carfully scraping it off and various bug/tar products, but none have worked. I'll see what I can find locally of the products that you listed.

If you can find it, Lift-Off is wicked for that stuff, but be assured it will take any wax it gets ever closed to. Smells like Liquid Wrench.

Had that happen to me on 78 T bird and lucked out that I was able to clip it off the paint with my finger nail. Maybe there was some dirt that kept it from sticking bad,but it was on it good.Good luck on getting it off.

Plastic razor blades may work. Be VERY careful with them. You might leave a slight scuff behind but, a slight scuff can probably be removed with ease...

Where can I get plastic razor blades at? I've tried picking if off with my finger nails but no luck.

I notice when the road crews remove the reflective disks that have been glued down with that stuff, they just use the jackhammer....

Let us know if you find something that works -- it might come in handy some time!

After some searching I've only been able to find the plastic razor blades here. Anyone know of a local store that may sell these?

As noted above the 3M General Adhesive Remover will do the trick.

Plastic Razor blades I'm not sure you'll be able to find easily locally unless you find a distributor who sells professional car equipment. See if you can find any place who sells PRO, Carbrite, Valugard, or similar. They might have them.

That lower two-tone panel should be a painted surface. Only thing I can think is they might put some sort of flex agent or something else in there to help prevent chips on a lower panel but I doubt it. As long as it'a a safe solvent for paint, it should be able to work there (as in mineral spirits and stay as far away from Acetone as you possibly can). You also may have to let it have some dwell time on the spot.

Any sort of adhesive remover will work. The stuff most departments use for that is just 3M rubber contact cement.

Brake clean. The chlorinated type, preferably, the evaporates soon after contact. Spray onto a rag, rub easily into the offender. I've had a bunch of bad stuff come off and out with the careful application of brake clean.
