Once you get it clean, spray everything with silicone spray... you can get it at wall-mart for $1.79 in a red can, automotive section. Everything will look new, stay clean, and keep from cracking. My friend just got his dad's 99 GMC and he just did this and it looks as good as the new one his dad got to replace it.

Not sure if this is the right way to do it but what i do is.
Go to the car wash (open bay)
Wet it down alittle with the lightest pressure washing setting. (hold it as far away as i can.
then choose the engin degresser setting and
power wash it off(keeping the powerwasher as far away as possible)
then drive home or how ever far it is till it drys.
